I don't know how it is officially scored, but I was thinking just most overall medals.

there is no official "winner of the olympics" ... so the criteria for such is basically whatever you want it to be

It will either be the USA or China with most total medals. However, I think China will end up with the most golds medals.

i don't think so, personally

china won't win much of anything in track and field (or much else the second week) and the US will probably eclipse 40 golds since our average is 38 in the last 15 years and phelps will roll out 8 by himself (two more than he had in athens)

If Phelps was a country he would be in 3rd place with 6 golds behind China(26), US(14), and in front of Australia(5).

US leads China in total medals 46-41.

Charles, you may be right. After the gymnastics and diving competitions are over, we probably will finish with more when you take into consideration how strong we will be in track and field. ;)
