Week 0

Does anybody have any idea why we call it week zero instead of week one. Does it just sound cool or what? Is it an official name for Classics?

Because the UIL designated 11 weeks to get in 10 games, and at first not many teams played in the first available week I guess to have an extra week of preparation. So with the majority of schools not starting till the next week, they called it week 1 and the first week---week 0. Now, just about everyone plays in week 0.
