What is Saving Grace all about?

This is a fairly new tv series and I watched it for the first time a couple of weeks ago. But I couldn't understand it. Holly Hunter is a great actress and the cast is good but what is the story line. The episode I saw was about a mean policeman about to retire that was murdered. The series takes place in a city in Oklahoma and that Grace gets guidance from a death row inmate somehow and Tommie Lee Jones dressed similarly to his role in Missing.

Can anyone help?
