Reason why....price of oil futures go up and the price of gas goes up immediatly.....so you pay more now for higher oil prices in the future.....just think about that

All the oil companies make money off of the cost difference between extraction costs and sales prices of crude oil. they only make an average of about 7 cents a gallon on gas. But their crude profits are close to 100 dollars a barrel.
