I think this is his first day, and he seems like a pretty cool guy.

Help me welcome what I think may be our first of many Canyon Lake posters.

Thanks everyone. Seams like a great board with alot of activity. Looking forward to starting a new tradition with Canyon Lake's first year of varsity play. It maybe a tough first year but we can't wait til it starts. Our boys we give their all and hope for the best.

Canyon Lake JV went 6-3 against 4a and 5a jv teams, wouldn't call that weak. Defeated SV, Hays, Steele and O'Connor to name a few. We are probably a year away from being a contender but take us lightly and we might suprise some teams.

We opened with only freshman and sophmores and add a grade each year. Yeah, I imagine some games are going to be hard to watch.

Welcome to the best board around! Hope you enjoy all the "stuff" that flies over the threads here. There are some really nice folks on this board and of course a few "scab pickers" like everywhere else! Good luck this season; your team has joined a pretty tough district, but you will see some dang good football and some dedicated young men working their butts off.

Welcome and enjoy the board.

Any projections on number of students in the high school? Will you remain 3A for awhile or just passing through on the way up?

Hopefully we can stay 3a for awhile but it will be close. With 3 grades this next year we will be looking at about 700+ students.

Thats just a little over 230 per class. Another class of that size will still leaves you within 3A , but on the high end. But with the growth in that area, I'd bet yall wont be 3A for more than one or two more realignments. At least by then yall should be getting established pretty well.

I know for sure they are pulling from Smithson Valley, however there may be pulling from New Braunfels Canyon also..
Caynon Lake is the new high school for Comal County ISD which includes SV and NBC

Your post made me think New Braunfels might be separate from Canyon. I looked up Comal County and found out that even though Canyon High and New Braunfels High are both in New Braunfels, they are different school districts. I never knew that!

Stranger still - New Braunfels High which is on the west side of town is closer to Smithson Valley than Canyon which is on the east side of I-35..

I'm not 100% certain, but I'm pretty sure Canyon Lake HS is a little closer to San Marcos than it is to New Braunfels. And Wimberly and Smithson Valley are even closer than that. Its not far down the road from Blanco either. But there is a lot of growth going on at the actual Canyon Lake community right now. I dont know, but a lot of that may be Austin people trying to get out of Austin a little ways.

I'd like to see a map of that school district. Must look like a political gerrymandering map! Not being political here.

About 90% of our kids came from SV. We are an open campus though so anyone with transportation in Comal ISD can attend.
Comal ISD does extend into Bexar county with these students going to SV.

The boundary was quite an issue of discussion for some time.
