Navasota - Henderson --> Navasota should win. Although Henderson is a 4A program, they fall just above 3A cutoff at 985 - not a huge enrollment advantage over Navasota at 805. They are picked to finish fourth in their district, which makes them a projected playoff team in 4A. Should be a good matchup defensively for the Rattlers, who didn't see many balanced offensive teams in 2007, but rather mostly ground gobbling teams. Henderson returns 7 defensive starters, so the Rattlers hyped offensive attack will have an early test.

That reminds me of a 0 week game between Sweetwater and
Vernon a few years ago. The game was called midway through
the first quarter due to lightning. Vernon was leading 6-0.
Some of the Vernon youngsters on another board were
convinced that that made Vernon 1-0.:doh:

It was the year they beat us in the playoffs up at Lowery Field
by the score of 6-3.:(

Yuck- long trip for you guys. 15 minutes for them. There is a statue of a naked guy at the stadium. And I was going to tell you that they are the bulldogs, but someone beat me to it.

It might even be worse than that...Most 3A schools have had NO trouble putting up 50+ on Big Spring the last couple of years. And they made the 4A playoffs :thinking:

I'm glad to see Gilmer upgrade their non-district schedule, too. It'll be a lot better for the players if they can actually play into the 4th quarter against a regular season opponent for a change. I think that hurt the team last year when it came playoff time, which explains the letdown in the second half of some of their playoff games. I don't think nay of the starters played an entire game, sometimes not even into the 3rd quarter, until the playoffs last year. I still expect the Buckeyes to win this one even though they are rebuilding, or reloading, as someone else has said.

Classic -- Sweetwater's offense never got the ball and the game was called for lightning after two Vernon series. All us Vernon Folk considered it a 1-0 start -- the folks in Swater considered it a no game 0-0 start and it was all settled in the playoffs. That was a great build up and it was also a great game that could have went either way. If I can recall Swater had the ball, marched it down to about the Vernon 25 or 30 yardline and on a 4th and long with just a few seconds left threw it to standout out TE Giles Montgomery who now plays at TCU and Vernon CB Eric Favors who now plays at Southeastern Oklahoma knocked it down. Classic ball game. Two class programs. Lions won 6-3

After that win we in Vernon just went ahead and counted that first game as a win :-)
