One time I heard that Todd Dodge was the coach of Cameron, but then got fired after only a year or so. Does anyone know if this is true?

I think he was there longer than a year, but I am pretty sure he was canned.

Thanks. It seems weird to think that could happen to him looking at it now, but when you have a couple of bad seasons the head coach gets the boot a lot.

He was head coach at Cameron in 1994 and 1995. They went 3-7-0 in '94 which was their first losing season since 1976 and their worst season since 1968.

It's true it was just a couple years, everyone ran him out cause of too many district losses or something like that.

so apparently he's good enough to win 5 state titles at Southlake Carroll, but not good enough to coach at a small 3A school..hmmm

UPDATE: I've added in everything I have as far as the complete history of Cameron... the UIL has one win and one loss in 1919 that I don't have the scores for but otherwise it's about as complete as it's gonna get.

Pretty much across the board, I have yet to find an instance where two schools of different ethnicities played each other during the years of segregation prior to the mid to late 1960's.

I just saw those two games from 1989 I'm still missing against Marlin and Madisonville... kinda funny that it's easier to find scores from the nineteen teens than it is from the 1980's... but it's true.

Anyone old enough and with good enough of a memory to help me out with those two games?

Yep. They dominated us when I was on varsity. Well, they won by a combined 7 points, but they won. Not much to say about it.

Cameron Yoe,

I'm gonna tell ya like I told those Tigers....

With All That Tradition Y'all Got....

What in the World Has Happened To The Yoe's Football Program...

There Might and I DO MEAN MIGHT, be 3 or 4 more Programs in All of the State of Texas that could talk about A Winning Tradition like that...

And to do it in the Toughest Region In The State By Far...

Again, The Yoe Are Not Nearly What They Were...

c-town_balla

so....two poor years make us bad?....because I know of not one team that would call 13-1 a bad year.....and I know of not one team that would call 11-2 after the worst year in program history bad....programs on the decline don't make the playoffs 10 out of 12 years

cameron91
07-23-2008, 09:45 PM
Milk , if you look at the record , cameron in still playoff bond each year. the last two..2006 one man show..that a coaching issue. last year was a young team.. so don't count them out just yet.but when cameron was doing the dayum fool in 80's and 90's cameron was a running team.that old temple texas bob mcqeen WANG T put cameron on the map. then from 89 - 93 we went to the POWER I.cameron will be okay.just wish they ran the ball more..

Also... if you look at their all-time winning percentage... in 2006 it reached the highest it's been since the year 1916. That's NOT the sign of a program in decline.

All-Time Highest Winning Percentages among current 3A Programs

(Includes all known games played in U.I.L. varsity 11-man football competition thru 2007)

1. 78.85% :: 3A-21 :: West Orange-Stark :: (280-74-3)
2. 68.48% :: 3A-9 :: Celina :: (495-223-18)
3. 67.70% :: 3A-29 :: Hondo :: (629-292-31)
4. 65.97% :: 3A-2 :: Brownwood :: (634-320-29)
5. 64.73% :: 3A-24 :: Cameron Yoe :: (606-320-45)

Okay... Okay...

Y'all are Right and I am Wrong...

It's just I've been getting an earful from one of my Cameron buddies who was so distraught about the underperforming '06 team and the '07 team which had the Largest Margin of Defeat to Rockdale in History, and the Largest Playoff Margin of Defeat in History, (at least that's what he tells me)...

tell your yoe dawg to chill out..that playoff was to a very good La Vega team and Rockdale was long over due to kick cameron butt from all those butt kicking we've been giving them. so it all equal out.if this help him tell him in 90 we beat WACO L V 42-0 and Rockdale the same...:D

Cameron has too much tradition to fall off for long.

Like I said in the mockup thread, Cameron still has a playoff quality team hitting the gridiron this year, but they have to make it through one of the tougher districts in the state this year. They could, and this is pure speculation, win 18-20 of the 28 districts in 3A this year. The thing that is probably catching up to them now is their numbers, and the depth of the teams they are playing now in 3A. A good chunk of the teams in 3A have what were 4A enrollments just a few alignments ago. I was hoping for Cameron's sake that they would fall to 2A last realignment so they could go take home some state titles and revamp for an eventual move back to 3A. I followed them with the Mullins? kid a few years back and even caught a couple of playoff games. There is so much tradition up there that it is hard to root against them. Maybe they will surprise some folks this year and take Madisonville's playoff spot. :thinking:

jimmyceatworld
07-24-2008, 12:29 PM
I still can't believe no one has really brought up how Madisonville had 32 seniors on last year's squad. Sure they still have Whaley (granted, one of the best in the state) but with only 7 returners I think the Stangs are going to be hurting big time. They breezed through an easy district last year, but I wouldn't be surprised if they don't advance to the playoffs this year.

Well plenty of teams have lost to rockdale. Cameron seems to be good at beating rockdale. Other than that, I dont think any other team flat out owns Rockdale.

What has been amazing throughout the past 12 years that I have been following this rivalry (oYe 10 - RHS 2), is how Yoe can win with inferior talent at home and on the road. Now I'm not saying all 10 of those wins the Tigers had more talent, but on about 3-4 occasions there was no doubt.

The saying goes, "Rockdale hopes to win, but the Yoemen expect to win!" Confidence is a definite benefit. The "Battle of the Bell" will be interesting once again this year.

In another thread I mentioned beating RHS twice in one year, it was about my Cougars whooping RHS twice in '07. But this thread made me recall my High School(YHS '78-'81) record against the Tigers. My Freshman year we played them twice, once at Cameron and the next week in Rockdale. Of coarse we beat them both times. We won in '79; lost in '80 in Rockdale and destroyed them in '81. That started 7 straight years that Rockdale didn't have the bell.

What was the name of your coach in Cameron back then?

How would you compare him to the China Spring coach?

Rabid, what say you..

cameron91

his name was Toby York..he came from Temple.when he left cameron atfer the 87 year.. I belive he went to Conroe.but he never did have the luck in Conroe like he did in Cameron..

Rabid Cougar

When we, the Cameron Freshmen, beat Rockdale twice in one year the Varsity coach was Max Graham, the Freshman Coach was Ken Poole. He was the Varsity Boys Basketball coach who went on to Coach the Bryan HS Girls for a while. He is retired now.
Toby didn't come to Cameron until my Senior season. As far as York and Bell are compared, totally different personalities but very similar coaching styles with very creative offensive minds. Both like to tweek the opposing coaches when oppertunity presented. Both coaches got/get the most from the players they have and generally never were/are outcoached.
As far as experience. Toby played QB at ACU with Wilbur Montgomery as RB. Mark didn't play College ball. Toby would be a dynasty, like Bob McQueen, if he had stayed at Cameron. He was from Conroe and went back to take over his dad's position.
