Tropical Storm Dolly has taken aim at the Yucatan Peninsula since forming around midday Sunday. Dolly is expected to make landfall around midnight EDT near Punta Allen. Dolly, however, will make more than one landfall in its lifetime. Dolly is forecast to emerge into the southwestern Gulf of Mexico on Monday, approaching the extreme northeastern coast of Mexico and becoming a hurricane in the following days.

Dolly, as a Category 1 hurricane, should make its second landfall along the extreme northeastern coast of Mexico early Wednesday morning. While its center will remain to the south, Dolly will still impact South Texas. Locally drenching showers and thunderstorms will periodically overspread South Texas starting Tuesday with widespread heavy rain to follow at night and Wednesday. Gusty winds will also increase over South Texas Tuesday night.

Residents and visitors headed to the coastline of Texas and Louisiana should be advised that waves and the threat for rip currents will begin increasing on Tuesday.

Sinton Fan...I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but I have been watching this system and talking with some of my friends in the business and they said watch out Corpus to Brownsville! Once it makes it into the Gulf all bets are off. Looks good to be pulled farther North than they think. Adjusters are being called and put on stand by and Austin has started up its emergency services operation.
I hope our friends to the south pay attention to this.

I just told my supervisors the exact same thing. I read somewhere that they are expecting it to make its second landfall as a Category 1 storm, but the Gulf waters are warm and storms always strengthen very quickly once they are in the open waters. We should have a better idea of what its gonna do by early Tuesday.

piratebg, I think that it may miss the Yuc-all together or at least just skirt it. I know it is several days off but as one who makes a good living off these things I think they are (NHC) downplaying this a bit to stop oil panic. We will know by Wednesday night or Thursday but I say ....fill up the water bottles and gas up the truck.

Dolly has intensified a bit and the projected path is more toward South Texas:eek:

piratebg
07-21-2008, 05:02 AM
Well, Dolly may not have made landfall last night afterall. The center of circulation looks like it just missed land so Dolly has strengthened a little. I'm pretty sure they were counting on her weakening before she entered the Gulf and now that she missed land, I wonder if this changes the forecast.

11 a.m. Dolly update

July 23, 2008 - 11:11 a.m.
A tornado watch remains in effect for the Victoria area until 7 p.m. today.

At last report, Hurricane Dolly was 30 miles east-southeast of Brownsville and moving northwest at 7 mph. It had 100 mph winds.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I saw somewhere where Dolly was upgraded to a Cat 2 but not sure if that's accurate or not.........
update to the update

Category 2 Hurricane Dolly
Tim Ballisty, Meteorologist, The Weather Channel
11:15 a.m. ET 7/23/2008
As landfall nears, Hurricane Dolly is strengthening and is now packing maximum sustained winds of 100 mph; a category two hurricane.

With its slow movement over the Gulf of Mexico, Hurricane Dolly remains just barely offshore allowing it to further intensify this morning. The center of Dolly's eyewall is expected to make landfall near S. Padre Island early this afternoon.

As of 10 a.m. CDT, the center of Hurricane Dolly was located about 30 miles east-northeast of Brownsville, Texas. Dolly has slowed even more; moving to the northwest at just 7 mph. The storm's pressure, measured by the Air Force Reserve Hurricane Hunter reconnaissance plane, has now fallen to 964 mb.

From the looks of it, the eye made landfall just north of Port Isabel/South Padre Island, where there is no population living there. But from the look of the doppler radar, it looks like the south side of the eyewall is where the most potent storms are, and Port Isabel/South Padre Island caught that.

I have a cousin who is in a rather big house in Port Isabel proper and she's said they had a 90mph wind gust, sustained winds around 75 out of the West and Northwest now
