i was wondering if anyone knew the rules as far as camping at a beach.

we are thinking about going to the beach and camping out there.

is this legal?
can we have camp fires?

anything else we should know?

we are thinking about going to Matagorda

At Mustang Island (near Corpus), there is a state park that allows camping, I went there 3 years ago and camped for a few nights.

Here is a great site that should answer all your questions. Have fun!

;)

Here is a little more info I found that might interest you.

MATAGORDA ISLAND STATE PARK's beaches can be reached by ferry from Port O'Connor; the ferry costs $16 for adults and $9 for children, and although there's no room for cars, bikes, surfboards and kayaks can be taken along on the ferry. Mosquitoes can be bad at this beach in the summer; the Karankawa Indians used alligator grease to keep them off centuries ago, but insect repellant would probably work as well. There are more than 30 miles of beaches at Matagorda Island, and there's a shuttle ($2 for adults, $1 for kids) that takes ferry passengers to the beach. Campsites are available, and hiking, biking, swimming, surfing and fishing are popular activities there.

I copied that from another great site you might want to check out.

Didn't some bad stuff happen at Matagorda a few years back with some Americans??

It seems like there was a mass grave or something!!

Maybe I am thinking of someplace else!!!

Mustang Island State Park would be a safe clean place to camp, they try to keep the beach clean and since it's a State Park it should be quite safe. Have a great time.

Iffin I was a robber, I think I'd go after the people that could afford a hotel on the beach instead of the poor folks with sand in their teeth.

Matagorda is an island you have to take a ferry to. No place for robbers to hide. I used to do surveys with the US Gov. there back in the late 60's. Don't know about now, but there was NOTHING there back then. No stores, no roads, no hotels, no nothing. If you want a campfire, you better take some wood. I don't even remember seeing driftwood on that beach.

Would be a good idea to check out the TP&W site for Matagorda. Pay attention to the bottom section where it says "Please Note".
