Saying hi to my Downlow family from Turks and Caicos. If I wasn't married, I just might miss my flight home.

Looks great! I had a trip planned to Turks back in '01. It was a sweet deal = FREE!!! My dad died & I had to cancel. Looking back, I should have stuck it out with the agency til the end of the year and taken my mom. :(

Hope you are having a great time!!! Thanks for the pics!! :)

It's amazing. When I said that I'd miss my plane if I weren't married, I wasn't lying.

I don't know if you're staying on Providenciales (the island where most people stay--that's where we are) or another island, but I can give you a few pointers here on Provo.

1. Go all-inclusive if you can. We didn't, but found out real quick that it's worth it.

2. Bring money. Lots of it. You're on an island, everything is shipped in from elsewhere, and the prices reflect it. We've averaged about $80 a meal for the two of us over here in the Grace Bay area (where we're staying & where most of the tourists stay) and spent $5 on a loaf of IGA-brand generic bread at the local grocery store. Your average burger will run you $11, average fish dinner is $25-$35, and average steak is $50.

3. DO NOT eat at the expensive American-style restaurants. We've eaten at two (Hemingway's and Mango Reef) and were disappointed both times. I've had better seafood in Houston. And that's sad. Stick to the "local" places away from Grace Bay. We've eaten at five different restaurants here in the Grace Bay area and haven't found a single one that was worth the money.

-If you're here on a Wednesday night, eat at Smokey's on da Bay over in the Blue Hills. They have a "fish fry," but not one like you and I are used to. Their "fry" means sauteed over an open flame and it's friggin' delicious. By far the best food we've had since we've been here.

-Hole in the Wall bar and grill over by the airport is also great and reasonable. We ate there yesterday and spent $20 for one plate of jerk chicken, one of jerk pork, two beers, and two bottled waters. And it was much better than Hemingway's (where we dropped $110 with the tip), Mango Reef (where we spent about the same), and Jimmy's Dive (which is a little less-expensive).

-We're trying Horse-Eye Jacks tonight, which is over in the Blue Hills by Smokey's. We've heard they're on par with Smokey's.

4. Rent a car. Explore the island.

5. Buy snorkeling equipment before you come. Snorkeling is the cheapest form of entertainment on the island. Oh, and when you see that $100 price tag at the check out line at Bass Pro Shops, your local scuba shop, or online (where it'll be even cheaper), don't freak. I spent $200 on my cheap (well, slightly-below-average) set here in Provo because my wife didn't like the $175 awesome set that I wanted to order online.

6. Do a boat trip of some sort. Whether it's renting a little Sea-Doo Speedster, going sailing for the day, going snorkeling, or going fishing, do it. You'll get to see parts of Provo (and other islands) you wouldn't get to see otherwise.

7. Gambling is legal at 18 here, but I wouldn't recommend it. We lost $300 in less than an hour and gave up. Save the gambling for things to do stateside. Do stuff you can't do back home while you're here. Snorkel, sail, eat conch, learn to scuba, etc, etc, etc.

There's more I could go into, but I'd just bore you. If you have more questions, don't hesitate to send a PM. The wife's sick today and I already went to the beach for a few hours, so I'll be around for a little while.

I understand that Kiss bassist Gene Simmons bought an island down there and named it fittingly "Gene-topia". Don't know how true that is? But I think he has the money for it.

Haha, apparently Simmons has a house down here along with Bruce Willis, Donna Karan (fasion designer-- DKNY) and this is where Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck got married.

One thing about scuba diving is that you'll need your license to go diving. I've always wanted to do it, so if you can get it for free through Beaches (which would be good to find out), I'd take advantage of that.

And definitely, PM me with any questions.
