Celina picking LH over Celina?? I gotta go with WO-S on this one and have a couple of things to back it up before anyone even tries to call me a homer

I also tried to do a retrospective rating for the season in a post several months ago and came up with a very similar ranking which had Celina edging out WO-S for best defense:

Just curious, but who did Robinson's defense stop last year?

They held Celina to a season low 19 points for one

and lost. Yes that's saying something holding Celina to 19 points, but it was also the first game of the season. To me no matter what your defense does if you don't get the W, it's all for nothing.

I still give Robinson props for making it through BY FAR the toughest 3A schedule in the state in 2007 with a winning record overall. They played 3 of the 4 eventual 3A State Finalists, (Celina, Liberty Hill and China Spring), as well as Quarterfinalist Waco La Vega, and gave both Celina and China Spring a run for their money.

They shutout Rockdale 21-0 (the same Rockdale that hung 25 on Liberty Hill just one week later) and they beat playoff team Kennedale 28-7 (who averaged 35 pts per game last season).

Celina without question. Second string played a lot in the second half and some teams never scored or advanced the ball much until then. Just my opinion. :D

Didn't see them all, but the best defense I saw by far was LH. AW put some big hits on us but didn't do it consistently throughout the game. LH had us covered up from beginning to end.

Ain't that the truth?! Liberty Hill's defense smothered us. That's the best I've seen anyone defense Gilmer in the last 7 or 8 years, for sure. I'm not sure how good some of the other defenses could have done that, because we're not talking about an average offense that LH stopped. We're talking about a team that averaged 49 points a game including the playoffs. To hold the Buckeye offense to just 6 points (7 points came on the opening kickoff return) was phenomenal.

I have to agree with this one myself. We never played the first string past the 3rd and sometimes the half. If we would have played the first string four quarters for half the season who knows. It was not till the semis that we played the first string most of the game at all. Snyder was a decent ball running team.
CS was a good pass team.

ROBINSON....Are you kidding me????

They did not give CS a "run for their money"!!! It was 31-14 with under two minutes to go. They were an average defense at best!!!

They were pretty good. Not the best cover team but decent. Good against the run. Ya'll just had a good team. No one really even slowed down your offense but us.

I was at the LH Gilmer Game. I had seen what Gilmer's Offense was able to do to several teams that year. What LH did by holding that Gilmer O to 6 points was the best performance of any defense I have seen.

La Vega did a pretty good job of it in the first game against CS

La Vega 42
CS 13

:D

It may have been 31-14 with two minutes to go but the final score was 31-25. If CS allowed them to come back by 11 pts with 2 minutes to go, who's to say they couldn't have gotten another 7 and won the game if given an additional minute?

That's a "run for the money" in my book
