anybody going? no, too many know it all's. Add in all the staffs that think it is necessary to dress alike and it just loses it's luster. We are going to Ruidoso, New Mexico for a 4 day coaches and wives retreat. Meetings in the morning, horses in the afternood, casino in the evening, and more meetings late into the night. Wild Turkey will be invited and killed on more than one occasion!

I agree with you GreenMonster about all the "know it alls"...problem is, in my opinion, they only know what they are currently coaching (and most of those are so young that they haven't learned very much about the profession). I don't know your age, but my advice to you would be to talk to some of the "old school" guys...get a feel for what coaching used to be. I will be attending my 29th Coaching School (starting my 29th year in the profession), and I still enjoy going. "Old" friends, new friends, and ALWAYS something to take back with me that will make me a better coach (and I don't mean just X's and O's). I've also been on the "retreats" that you and your staff are doing, and I enjoyed those too, but at this point, I still feel that supporting the THSCA is important to what we do as coaches. I don't know many of the "new blood" guys that are now running the Association, and I don't agree with many of the decisions that they make, but I still support the big picture.

Hey C-town...be careful...some of the ladies that are checking badges will hurt you if they catch you sneaking in...I left my badge in my motel room one year, and offered to arm wrestle one of those ladies...if I win, don't have to walk back and get my badge...if she wins, I have to get the badge...was a dang hot walk back to the motel, and then, when I got back, I wasn't about to walk in through her door.

Entering my 15th year and enjoy going just to see friends. Also a great place to meet new people and make new contacts. In the coaching profession you can never have too many contacts.

That's what I hear! It may not be "what" you know, but "who" you know. ;)

GM, do you all go to any coaching clinics? Had a buddy that just left where your at and he said he hadn't been to a coaching clinic the entire time he worked there. What's up with that?

We didn't last year. You can go if you want. School will pay for it. School will pay for 2 "clinics" a year. The New Mexico trip counts as one. I chose not to go to the baseball clinic this last year because my assistant wasn't interested. I have a new assistant this year and we will be making that trip to Waco.
When Hicks was the AD I don't think they went anywhere. The current AD Wilton likes going off together as a group, but he wants it to be more relaxed therefore we go to New Mexico. So, if your buddy never went to a clinic the whole time he was at my school it was his choice not to go. Like I said, school will pay for 2 clinics a year if you so choose to go.
