View Full Version : Ever Irked Another Teams Fans?

OK, I know that on the other thread, there were times when your team or fans obviously irked the other team's fans.

And ... we know confession is good for the soul.

So, is there any chance anyone here is willing to admit that they became wearisome, irritating, annoying or exasperating to another team and their fans?

Every other year I become completely obnoxious at the Tech vs. A&M game at College Station. My Aggie buddy expects it and ... he is saving up for a day when A&M actually beats Tech in football again.

And ... I must admit that the A&M fans that are around me have been very tollerant. Of course, I am rather friendly before the game and they have fair warning, so my nose hasn't been bent yet. :D

I was at a Rangers game last year when the Red Sox were in town, and it happened to be the coldest game in the history of the Ballpark. Gametime temperature was 38, and it dropped as the evening progressed.

When I got to my seats with my friends, I noticed that there wasn't a seat with my number...I think it was 15 that I had and the last seat on the row was 14 or something like that. Anyway, I ask the usher where my seat is, and he tells me that I'm standing in it...apparently the lady at the box office had sold me a handicapped seat. He offered to get me a wheelchair to sit in, but I told him I was fine and didn't mind standing since it was so cold anyway.

Through the first several innings, the Rangers are getting beat 4-0 or something and there are literally hundreds of Red Sox fans in seats around us going crazy and harassing us for cheering for such a "crappy team". We were in the upper deck, on the top row of the lower half. If you've been to the Ballpark, you know that there's about ten rows, then a walking area, and then what's almost like another deck above it about 20 feet higher. Since there wasn't anybody sitting next to my friends, I took one of the empty seats from time to time.

Midway through the game, the tides turn completely. Sammy Sosa hits his first home run since returning to the Rangers, and the Rangers take an 8-4 lead in the middle of the game. Red Sox fans start getting grumpy, and some of them start to leave. I heckle them on their way out telling them what "great fans" they were for leaving in the seventh inning because their team that they had been bragging on all night was getting beaten. At this point, I'm standing in my empty spot where my seat is, because the game is exciting, and it keeps me warmer.

I have some Sox fans behind me start to yell at me to sit down and shut up, and I just ignore them. Well, they apparently get so ticked off at my cheering for my team and standing in the spot that I've paid for that they have security and an usher come and demand that I sit for the rest of the game. I can't tell you how pissed I was for the rest of the night. Workers at the RANGERS home stadium were telling a Rangers fan to sit down because Red Sox fans were getting annoyed and claiming I was blocking their view, and as I said, it's about 20 feet up to the nearest seats, and there's no way that I'm blocking anybody's view.

I was happy to know that I had successfully annoyed the Red Sox fans, but I'm still angry to this day that the Rangers staff told me to sit, despite me showing my ticket stub to prove that I actually WAS in the seat that I'd paid for.

My senior year of HS, we returned from an away game in Hebbronville to find a few of our cars had been mildly vandalized in the field house parking lot. It didn't take long for us to decide that it was our friendly neighbors at Tuloso-Midway who had most likely done the deed, since they had an open week.

It just so happened that the next week, they had a home game vs. Mercedes and we were open, so we decided to go sit as a team in their student section and raise holy hell...and that's exactly what we did.

The end result was us getting escorted out by sheriff's deputies amid a hail of debris, and the principal ( who was the T-M QB's dad) playing Joey Crawford to my Tim Duncan and basically challenging me and a couple of my teammates to a fight because we were laughing about the whole thing.

But at least we didn't screw with anyone's vehicle...

so if you're admitting to irking "another team's fans", does that mean you admit that you've had rooting interests in games you've officiated???

That sounds like me at Minute Maid with Cubs fans...:p

No, I am on the third team on the field. Not many fans recognize the the officials are a team.

I was at that game! It sucked. I was so pissed. But I did find it funny that when Sammy hit that home run that all the Rangers fan went absolute bonkers. It was like he walked on water or something.

It was in the semi final game I believe and the call I made was for face masking. You were running with you back to the line of scrimmage in the end zone and just threw your hands in the air right in the receivers face.

On one of the kick offs, you caught a squib kick on a good bounce scooted through a hole for a touchdown.

I am always in the press box at Wylie games, so when we are away, we are on the home side. A couple of years ago we were playing at ????????? and their fans were mouthy and our booth had no window so it was just open air. I happened to have had a pack of M & Ms and started laying them on the counter and thumping them into their crowd. No one could tell where they were coming from. It was a blast to see someone turn around and just look for who might be chunking M&Ms at them. Anyway, that particular night I did irk some fans, and what was cool was they didn't even know who to be irked at.
