Hi Gobbla,
I certainly think you're right about defense.
What makes a defense that has allowed 152 points
so "dang" good?

Now when you take a dang good defense and COMBINE it with an offensive team that can score, now that's purty "dang" good. Would you agree with that?

Forney has outscored opponents 409 to 144 so far not counting last nights game. Most of those points coming on the 2nd/3rd string D.

Well, let's see...

We played Rice Consolidated (ranked when we played 'em), Sealy (ranked when we played them) and Yoakum (ranked when we played 'em)...

We gave up 46 to Rice in our first game... I know that's a lot of points, first game or not, but we played them with 8 players starting that didn't play the previous year... Gave up 20 to Sealy in our 3rd game and 21 to Yoakum in our 6th game and allowed 7 points against the highest scoring offense in our district (400+ yards a game) in week 7... It's all about our defense growing together, which they finally have...

Now, offense backing it up? haven't scored under 20 points this year... Scored 22 on Rice Consolidated, 21 on 4A Rockport-Fulton, 37 against Sealy (The other 7 to make it 44 was off of a blocked punt)... We have a sophmore who has rushed for over 1,000 yards on offense and a senior back who has rushed for around 900 himself...

Our QB's completion %-age is around 70% so he'll do good (A junior... may not be McGee, but with our awesome RB's and o-line creating a good running game, we don't have to pass as much as other teams)...

Our punter averages a little over 40 yards per punt and our punt-returner averages close to 20 yards a return (though he hasn't broken one yet)... Our FG kicker is the best in the district not missing a FG attempt and I believe having one extra point attempt blocked...

Basically, we have an all around ball game, and now that our defense is gelling at the right time, we're in good hands...

Am I saying Cuero will beat Burnet? NO... Am I saying Cuero CAN beat Burnet? Ya dang right...

Anyway, I'm just happy we'll be returning 8/6 next year...

Over half of Cuero's points allowed were in three games. 44 by Rice. Cuero's first game of the year with a new coach and a new defense. Rice's second game of the year. 4A Rockport put up 19 to Cuero's 21. Perennial power Yoakum put up 21 to Cuero's 28. That leave 68 points in the remaining 7 games. Some of that against second string. They're pretty good. Like I saw Gobbla2001 say a few months ago, the best thing for Cuero will be in Texas Football next year when it says Returning Starters 9/6.

Cuero will beat Wharton and be the biggest test for Burnet all year. :D

Dear Dr.,
I sure hope your right. Furthermore, I sure hope we get by an excellent Somerset. The season is
branspankin' new. All that other stuff doesn't count.

Mr. Gobbla has been puttin' to Burnet all yr. He says he just enjoys getting under our skin, well mr. gobbla that works two ways. Nothing would make me happier than to play Cuero. I'm sure their great. I'm sure it would and will be a great game.

All our points scored and scores prevented, by both teams won't mean squat. It's just who comes to play that day, if it comes. So Gobbla I'm sure we may take a few jabs at each other. That's alright, that's fun. Seriously, if we both do make it that far, I'd love to meet you. We'd have a good old time.

One thing for sure, I don't make predictions, just observations. BTW, that Burnet has allowed on 74 points and I also observe that Burnet has scored 473 points. So, my observation says we've allowed less and scored more, but that don't count. Hope to see you soon. I'll even buy your dinner, how's that?

fairfield has a pretty good defense...we have outscored opponents 257 to 102 and hold opponents to less than 130 yds of total offense, while averaging 245yds total offense. thats not to shabby i dont think.

I have seen the Burnet offense in action and read about it in the paper all the time. It is the real deal for sure, but the biggest secret in 3A football is the overlooked Burnet defense. The speed on this defense would rival any ranked 5A school around. Just my opinion

I said it would rival. Correct me if I am wrong but I think Burnet has 5 players committed to Div.I schools. How many does CC have? I have'nt seen CC play so I stick to my opinion

oh, and Charles Tillman now plays for the Chicago Bears....

Burnet could not rival any 5A school...

Well my real point I was trying to make was that Burnet has alot of speed that would rival most 5A programs. Not neccesarily that they could play with 5A schools.

Sweetwater gave up 27 points in district and pitches three shutouts. The only time the Mustangs have lost this year is when they have given up more than 13 points.

How 'bout a defense that has allowed an average of 103 yards a game and hasn't given up more than 14 points in a single game?

espn1 hasn't even seen Cuero play, much less ANY of the teams we've played... He's just seen Marlin play...

You can read all you want, but when it comes to playing the game on the field, what you think can't happen CAN...

I haven't seen Burnet play, all I know is they've been hyped a lot this season and have backed it up... so far...

So how do I know, without having actually seen them play, or ANY of the teams they've played play, that they're going to kick our butts???

That's why I said, I'm not saying Cuero will beat Burnet (Heck, we gotta get by a pretty dern good Wharton team first), but am I saying we CAN? YES

Hi Gobbla,
Burnet has real Respect for Cuero, We also have respect for Somerset. If Cuero does get past Wharton, which you should, and we do then meet in game 2, if Cuero DOESN"T beat Burnet? Would you then stop the crap and insults? Just checkin'?

Burnet's first defense has only given up 7
points in district this year, if you don't count the second team that gave up 21 points. The only real points that Burnet has given up in district was when Liberty Hill drove down the field in the first quarter. They are faster and better this year so if Burnet has to play Cuero/Wharton then they will be in big trouble.

I mean Wharton/Cuero will be in Cuero not to be confused in what I said.

mwisnews, add a S after "player" in your signature, its confusing to read. My brain puts an A at the beginning of the sentence eek!
