I was just interested in seeing if MLB teams are getting what they pay for. So I compiled the teams' payrolls and records. Of course, the season is far from over, but it currently looks like many high priced teams are under preforming (I guess I didn't need to make a thread to say that) to say the least while the 3 teams with the smallest payrolls in the league are experiencing success (all are in 2nd place of their respective divisions). The Marlins have got to be the best team money can't buy in the league. (Numbers in millions)

Yankees: $209.1 (40-33)
Tigers: $138.7 (34-38)
Mets: $138.2 (35-36)
Red Sox: $133.4 (46-29)
White Sox: $121.2 (41-31)
Angels: $119.2 (43-30)
Cubs: $118.6 (45-28)
Dodgers: $118.5 (34-38)
Mariners: $118 (25-47)
Braves: $102.4 (36-38)
Cardinals: $100.6 (42-32)
Blue Jays: $98.6 (35-39)
Phillies: $98.3 (42-32)
Astros: $88.9 (33-40)
Brewers: $81 (39-33)
Indians: $79 (33-40)
Giants: $76.9 (31-42)
Reds: $74.3 (33-41)
Padres: $73.7 (31-43)
Rockies: $68.7 (31-42)
Rangers: $68.2 (37-37)
Orioles: $67.2 (37-34)
D'Backs: $66.2 (39-34)
Twins: $62.2 (37-36)
Royals: $58.2 (31-42)
Nationals: $55 (29-45)
Pirates: $49.4 (34-39)
A's: $48 (39-33)
Rays: $43.8 (43-29)
Marlins: $21.8 (39-33)

One the field? Prob not. With endorsements maybe. I travel a lot and you always see Yanks, BoSox, Dodger jerseys/hat everywhere.

I think chemistry makes a team. Not payroll.......

No not Payroll. Sometimes Payroll= Ego.

Ego does not always win. I agree you have to have a good foundation, but that does not mean you have to have the highest paid players to win

Plus baseball is a sport where one guy can be making 10 million and another 2 million and the 2 million dollar player is way better than the 10 million dollar guy.

No you are right. All I was saying is that boston, new york etc. have a lot of money and it seems that usually teams like them go far into the playoffs and many times win the world series. but you are right that payroll equals ego.

I mean after all, look at the Mariners. Did you see the interview with the coach. He was mad as heck that they are sucking right now. I am of course a Ranger fan and am happy that they are doing this well. IF we can just get over that .500 slump thing. Well the 13-3 win tonight sure will help.

yes ... and it doesn't take that long to copy and paste, although it took me longer than it would most.
