in today's Statesman. http://www.austin360.com/statesman/editions/today/sports_10.html Gives a litte history on the Giddings and La Grange rivalry.
In thinking about this game this week I couldn't help but notice a couple of similarities between these two teams and the Texas/OU rivalry. Of course there is the dislike between the two teams that comes with any rivalry (although I think the hate that exists between Texas/OU far outweighs any "bad blood" that is between Giddings/La Grange). Also, where Texas/OU are in two separate states that border each other, Giddings and La Grange are in two separate counties that border each other. Also, Texas/OU became a big rivalry even though the two schools were in separate conferences up until 1996. I know realignment changes every two years but it seems like Giddings and La Grange really haven't been in the same district that often even they they are right down the road from each other. I don't know how the alignment was set up in the '80s or before but I know that Giddings/La Grange have only been in the same district 2 out of the last 6 years.
Just a few observations. I know a lot of high schools can probably say the same thing but I thought I would throw that out there anyway.
