When we bust pieces of crap that molest children, sell drugs to children, beat on their wives, take advantage of the elderly, etc. . It's really hard dealing with all the negativity that comes working at a Police Department, but there are rewards when we take down the low-lifes that are walking the streets.

I'm the opposite than most of you. I work for a government land management agency and work outside most of the time - and get to go out west every summer for the wildfires. I call it summer camp but get to see some of the most beautiful sites in the country - and get paid for it. Have fought fire in 33 states so far........

June and July

followed extremely closely with August, September, October, November, and December AKA FOOTBALL SEASON!!!!

January sucks.

February sucks.

March, April, and May AKA BASEBALL SEASON!!!!

then back to June and July.

It's hard to be a schedule like that. The real binus, out of an 8 period class day I teach 1 period a day. The rest is spent either in an athletic period or working as a tutor helping kids take tests.

30 days paid leave each year
travel pay is tax free
low cost full health, dental and life insurance-guaranteed
housing allowances or free housing provided based upon level of experience
safe neighborhoods to live in
a large supprt network
free college for the rest of my life (too bad i was a already a senior when i started-but my masters or possibly fire cert. will be free)

Of course, i am talking about

the military

where tax free pay is earned in a combat zone
our form of socialized medicine always ranks lower than civilian, free market health care

so there are good and bad things, obviously, depending on how you look at it

the GI Bill gives you 38,500, which is great except in ten years it won't be enough for even public schools

Who-dun-it!!?
06-17-2008, 07:21 PM

I guess its the unexpected trips to the border with and unknown time frame of when your coming home. Or maybe the unforgiving long hours without food or water when when we go to places like the YFZ ranch in El Dorado. Possibly the late nights or early mornings with a one day turn around. The enexpected change in shifts without notice or the being on call 24-7. Certainly dealing with turds a great deal of the time has its perks.

But I guess what I love most about my job, is.......

Quittin Time!!!

It's the pay boss, It's the pay! Work is not something I like. I had rather be fishing, hunting, or playing golf so they have to pay me well or I won't go to work. So for me it's the pay.
