With unbearable pain and three unforgettable shots, Woods turned in one of his most memorable performances in a major Saturday by holing two long eagle putts, chipping in for birdie and somehow taking a one-shot lead over Lee Westwood.

Right when some 50,000 fans at Torrey Pines thought they had seen it all, Woods knocked in a 30-foot eagle on the 18th for a 1-under 70 and his first 54-hole lead in the U.S. Open since he won at Bethpage Black in 2002.

That he made it to the finish line was nearly as impressive as a magical array of shots.

His tender left knee first buckled on the 15th hole, and Woods used his club as a cane to get down the fairway, limping along while trying to stay in the hunt. He played the final six holes in 4 under—and that included a bogey—and will play in the final group for the sixth time in the last eight majors.

This time he has the lead, and he has never lost a major from the front.

I know what you mean - Lil44 was at the Astros game and I was calling him with GOLF UPDATES lol...... 2 Eagles on the back 9..... wow - sure hope Tiger's knee settles down tonight and doesn't afffect his game adversely tomorrow........ Yes he is a great player and I like him more as a individual now than when he first came out but I like to see him get beat.

BTW (as I have posted before) I was not a Nicklas fan during his heyday either.

I will be rooting for Westwood, Love, and Els today. After his interview last night, I also have to root for Mediate (he sounded like a kid who couldn't wait for Sunday just to get back out there).

what I cannot stand about golf is all they do is jock Tiger... there could be someone on the course today about to shoot a 59 or 58 and they would still be showing Tiger on the practice green, or drinking his water, or acting like his knee hurts, or eating a sandwich... you get the picture...

pulling for Rocco myself. not a Tiger hater by any means............but i am sooooooo tired of hearing about the knee. being compared to kirk gibson yesterday was absolutely hilarious. he IS the worlds best player, but the announcers are just too ate up with him. I really just hope somebody can keep it close and make for an interesting finish. those were some freaking bombs he hit on the back nine though!!!!!

It was an impressive back nine for El Tigre yesterday. You take away those two eagles and where is he? It doesnt matter because when you are he best golfer EVER you give credence to the phrase "Luck is what happens when preparation meets opportunity".

Tiger made some AMAZING shots on the back nine. He was hitting the balls on other fairways and he was finding ways to do crazy things and comes out at -3 so Far. :clap:

There's been some really good putters on the pro tour through the years, but Tiger has to the be the best (especially when it's a pressure putt). That putt on Sunday to tie was something.
