Not sure why they would do it again, but word is that following the parade Adrian Peterson is going to make a nice donation to the athletic department to put in new turf at Wildcat Stadium. That's the reason the Wildcats start the season with 3 straight road games.

In his rookie season, Adrian Peterson made quite an impression on NFL fans and coaches around.

The Palestine High School graduate was named the Associated Press’ NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year as well as the Pro Bowl MVP, to name a few honors.

For his accomplishments, he will be honored in the second annual Adrian Peterson Day Parade on June 21 in Palestine.

“We had over 1,000 people here last year, but we’re expecting an even bigger turnout this year,” Carol Peques, who is the founder and organizer of the parade, said. “We got flyers out early and we’ve contacted people in Minnesota and Oklahoma who are all interested in Adrian.”

The parade will begin on Avenue A across from the courthouse at 10 a.m. and end at Old Town Palestine, followed by Texas State Railroad Park Festivities.

In the parade will be a group known as the “Mom Squad”, which consists of mothers of professional athletes including the mothers of Shaquille O’Neal and Carnell ‘Cadilliac’ Williams, as well as Peterson’s mother, father, daughter and other family members.

“The Mom Squad is a group that goes from city to city raising money for youth to put back into the neighborhoods,” Peques said.

Following the parade, the festivities will be held at the Texas State Railroad as Palestine mayor Carolyn Salters will welcome everyone and present Peterson to the crowd.

“There is going to be great music and vendors, and it’s just going to be like a family day in the park with Adrian,” Peques said. “Families can bring blankets and lunch with them if they like and it’s going to be nice and pleasant.”
