Congratulations Malcolm!

Congrats to Malcolm. He was a pretty dang good receiver, as well. What kind of stats did he have on the baseball field?

Per the Jasper Newsboy:

http://www.jaspernewsboy.com/news/2008/0604/sports/033.html

"performance in district games.

Bronson, who batted .468, had 22 hits in 47 at -bats with seven base-on-balls and scored 18 runs. He hit seven home runs, four triples, six doubles, stole nine bases out of nine, and contributed 28 RBIs.

Malcolm Bronson was named Offensive Player of the Year in the District 21-3A All-District selections ........... "

-------------------------------------
These stats are for district only. I think he ended the season with 14 homeruns or so if I remember correctly. His speed on the bases tended to stretch singles into doubles, and doubles into triples. Notice that out of 22 hits in district, 17 were for extra bases. And I think it was generally true that Jasper was facing the opponents best pitcher each game. Malcolm had a monster year, and as you can see the MLB scouts noticed. Maybe someone else will have his full stats.

More, full season info from the Beaumont Enterprise:

"This season, Bronson emerged as a power-hitting rightfielder. He batted .442 with 12 home runs and 46 RBIs. He had six doubles and six triples. Once on base, he was 12-for-12 in steals.

Before this season, Bronson mainly used his speed to get on base. He bunted often enough to be nicknamed "Bunting Bronson" as he helped Jasper to a Class 3A state championship last year. This year, that name became "Bombing Bronson" for the frequent home runs that attracted professional scouts."
