This happened about this same time of year in 1848. The Mormons in Utah had settled there and it looked like a banner crop. However in late May of 1848 some locusts (some say crickets) began to attack the crops and it looked like they were going to lose all their crops. They put up a vallant front but it looked like everything was helpless. Then by a miracle on June 9, 1848, some sea gulls came and ate up all the locusts and thus the crops and people were saved.
This miracle did happen and this event is recorded in the history books.
A movie that includes this miracle was made in 1940 called "Brigham Young" and starred Tyrone Powell as one of the farmers and Dean Jagger as Brigham Young.
