Sweetwater doesn't have a movie theatre and going to Abilene
is too expensive. Dinner+Movie+Gas= $100+:(

I get a kick out of how their using the fact that this is the
director/producer's(?) first R rated movie as a hook in their
commercials.

Well, my wife loves every movie this guy has made. The Sixth Sense and Signs were the only ones I liked. I never saw Unbreakable. The Village and Lady in the Water just seemed to drag on forever.

Man, I really liked Unbreakable. The Village was to predictable
and you're right..drawn out. It seemed like it took half of the
movie for the blind girl to make her trek. I've never seen
Lady in the Water. I'll look for it next time I'm at Hastings.

Back in the 80's and early nineties the Hanshews(?) owned it
and ran it well. Since then it's been through a few owners that
put absolutely no money into the upkeep. The last owner was
a local lawyer who closed it down right after Ratatoiui(sp?) was
released. It stayed on the Margue for months until some one
took it down. You should see that Marquee now. It's smashed in
and falling apart. It almost looks unsafe to walk under.:(

Sweetwater did you know that at one time Sweetwater did indeed have a movie theatre years ago?

I have been told at one time Sinton had three theatres. I am not sure where they were though except for the old Rialto.
In Freer at one time in the 30s and 40s there were three theatres. One that is stills standing though not in business for years was the old Cynthia Theatre. Another one was located a on the corner a block from the Cynthia Theatre. A third one was located where the Stockholders' Grocery Store was later located.

At one point Sweetwater had two drive-ins at each end of town
on Broadway street. The movie theatre was right in middle of
the town square. Both drive-ins are now junkyards. The movie
theatre might as well be.:(

This month (June) is the only month in 2008 in which we will have a Friday the 13th. We have not had one since July (2007) of last year. We will not have another one the rest of the year until February of 2009. In fact we will have a Friday the 13th three times next year in 2009 - February, March and November.

I don't know about three, but they did have the Rialto and a drive-in theater.

66 I was told there once was one right on the corner by the SPC News and another one where the Pawn Shop is. I think those were closed in the early 50s from what I have been told.
