Here is my argument how can you have a team who won the state championship at number 5 and have 3 other schools that didnt even make it to the championship. By the way im not knocking the other schools, but it doesnt seem right.

A lot of this is based on what the teams have returning. I still don't believe these polls, but I believe that is what he's looking at.

just at a glance.....

Where's Farmersville....everyone graduate from that team?

West Oso at #10? Did I miss something?

Navasota is an up and coming team to watch out for...but #2?

Lamar Consolidated wins a state champ and.....11th?

Calallen ranked above Lamar?

I guess, we lost some players, but we have some really good players coming back. Not to mention we were pretty well off on the jv and alot of those boys will be moving up. I would say we should be as good if not better this year than we were last year.

Not to mention one big thing Celina has coming back every year, tradition. Those kids know year in and year out what's at stake, and constantly produce winning teams. There is no doubt in my mind they will be up there somewhere.

Remember some of the schedules at the beginning of the season: Brownwood vs. Liberty Hill, La Vega vs. Brownwood and Wylie, etc. Some teams will fall early in the season, and some teams will move up. Some of the non district schedules will make or break some teams this year.

I never understood this argument...This is a preseason poll of who they think is the best right now( or in theory the day the season starts)...Just because you won state last year, does not mean your should automatically be slotted at number 1..Unless the people who are putting the poll together feel that with who you have back from last year's squad that your the top team

Lamar Consolidated lost its stud running back and qb... big hit there...

it is all based on what teams have returning right now...

so I put no stock in it...
I mean Fredericksburg went 3 deep in 4A last year and they are not in the top 25 in 3A?

see the pole around week 4 or 5 then let the arguements begin...

even Dave Campbell's is subjective.... some of the head coaches let their assistant's fill out the info and it is a guessing game there as well

simple....that championship was won last season...........your missing the point of a preseason poll they usually rank teams on potential to win in an up coming season..............and your going to hear it a million times this season just like every season with every sport that has a poll ...........polls don't mean $#!+..............esp. preseason polls.

why the heck are people so offended about where this guy put their team in a PRESEASON POLL.............you were mentioned....if your team wasn't then you should have you feelings hurt.....maybe we ought to have a 3A downlow poll....since so many on don't like the other polls that come out...........you would think by the way people are offended he did a preseason poll and ranked the state champion 3rd or 4th.

fredericksburg will be very young the next two seasons realignment came two years too late....they were very good the last two seasons as on of the smallest schools in 4A......heres an interesting fact (or whats wrong with R&R counts)....fred...turned in a number barely above the previous cutoff for the last R&R 06-07/07-08...but the day the R&R was annouced they were 12 kids below for the first season....this past season they were closer to 20 kids below the cutoff.........makes me wonder how many other schools played the last two seasons in this situtation...as matter of fact medina valley in the s.a. area was larger then fred. the past two seasons as 3A then when they were both in the same 4A district.

This is just a poll. It really doesn't matter except that it's nice to look at. I don't agree with where he has placed several teams, but, hey, what really matters is where they end up after weeks 15 and 16. Right?

Personally, I would have to rank the reigning state champions in the top two positions.....at least until somebody can knock them off. They've both earned the right to be there and should be there in my opinion.

I would imagine Navasota is ranked that high because of having a lot of returning players and having two of the top recruits in the country. There are only 4 players from 3A teams in the top 200 and 2 of them are from Navasota

Returning quite a few. Biggest loss was our QB. A Jr. and a
so. were platooned while he was injured and during mop up
games where we had a big lead. I believe 6 or 7 on defense
and five or six on offense. I could be wrong.

I was at the Clyde vs Sweetwater game last year. It was one of the best hard hitting games I've seen in sometime. Cann't wait till football season starts again. Are you going to the FCA All-Star game this year? I have not heard anything about it. Have you?

Navasota's Juniors:
Limas Sweed's cousin, Thomas, plays corner and some offense. Great hands, coverage, and decent tackling as well. Could be a return man. Aleon Calhoun is just a monster at 6-7 330. When he has cleats on, he looks more like 6-8. And he is fast, playing basketball also. Anchors the left tackle spot. Kye Hildreth will probably not be a recruit unless he bulks up considerably, but he has the chance to have a season like Trey Rauschek had last year at safety because he plays hard and has the "tools."

By the way, I don't agree with ranking Navasota #2 myself. However, that is the opinion of one person, just like all the personal polls we do all start with the opinion of one person as well before we average them up. I am pretty sure there are some Brownwood and Snyder guys that think that they are #1 next year, just like there are some Ingram Moore people that think they have a chance next year. It is all opinionated. The only way to get a poll mathematically and statistically right is if you do it after the fact, and even then, people still feel shafted.

I don't know, but according to orange machine we should be around #20 and Celina should be #1. I think he's a little jealous that the Lions are the new kid in town and getting too much attention.

Nope not jealous at all. Brownwood will get whipped a few times this year. Big reaseaon is because there coach cant make second half adjustments worth a flip and his overall play calling is not the best in the buisness. Brownwood will probaly make the playoffs, but will be beat 2 maybe 3 times before the playoffs and we be lucky to make it to the 3rd round!!!!

OM - you're an idiot. The thing about Brownwood isn't necessarily how good their talent is - and it is good - it's the fact that they've been play Waco, Waco Midway, Copperas Cove, Ennis and the likes for the last two years and Stephenville, Aledo before that. They've seen the best 4A has to offer and know what it takes to beat them. What makes you think that Celina would roll over Brownwood like its a 6-man school? I'm not even from Brownwood and for the record, can't stand coach Freeman, but he is a good coach that has overachieving teams each year. No way in the world should they have been a regional finalist two years ago in 4A with their numbers.

First off you should watch your smart mouth, i havent said that celina would roll over Bwood. I dont give a rip who they have played. The fact is and many Bwood people will tell you this is that Freeman makes bad call alot of the time and runs the same stuff over and over again. Dont get on here and start calling people or me names im speaking of what i know and what i have been told by Bwood people.

Jeez, now I wish we had Celina on the schedule.

I hear more about Brownwood from the Celina posters than I do from the Brownwood posters... and there is more action on this board about Brownwood than there is on the Brownwood board.

I admit - calling you an idiot was out of line. However, I think talking to a few Brownwood fans does not make you an expert on their coach. I'm sure there are some in Celina that don't always agree with coach Ford. Most teams will lose a game they shouldn't throughout the season and Brownwood may lose to someone like Liberty Hill. I would love to see Brownwood go 0-10 so I can laugh at my in-laws, but the fact is, Brownwood has the talent and coach to run the table and make a deep playoff run. Will it happen? Who knows, but they have all the pieces.

It's getting really hard to wait for football season to get here. I'm not gonna predict a state title (or even gaurantee the Lions will make the playoffs) in 2008. However, I will take up for Steve Freeman and say that a lot of people have been frustrated with the lack of winning or getting two or three rounds deep in the playoffs. I do know that the kids that play for Coach Freeman really respect him and he teaches them a lot more than Xs and Os.

I played for Gordon Wood so I don't know first hand, but I've never heard one of Steve's former players say one bad word about him. I know there's a few Brownwood fans that are getting a little restless about winning a state title. (It's been since my junior year in 1981 since we've won one).

I agree with bwdlionfan, I thought there'd be talk of Brownwood on this site since the Lions dropped down to 3-A but man this is really unexpected. No matter how the Lions do in 2008, the talk should be good on here.
