Notes: Michael Wacha has given up only one run in four playoff games. It is hard to say who the #2 pitcher would be for Pleasant Grove. Sophomore Jon Phillips came in to finish the regional final game against PIttsburg. The Hawks have outscored their playoff opponets 30-3. Pleasant Grove is a good defensive team led by Catcher Michael Morriss. Pleasant Grove defeated district rival Pittsburg in the Regional Final game. This is the third year in a row that a 3A team from Texarkana has made it to the state playoffs (Liberty-Eylau made it in '06 and '07).

In 1983, Snyder won the AAAA state championship and present Head Coach Charles Bollinger was the winning pitcher in that championship game. Coach Bollinger's son Brent, is a Senior P/SS on this year's team. Snyder has won 19/21 games and has not lost a game in the playoffs. Murdock's 13 HRs leads all 3A players.

Notes: Hutto's pitching is their strength, throwing 5 shut outs and 3 one run games in the playoffs. Four pitchers can be effective for them - Chris Thomison, Garret Carey, Brett Higginbotham, and Catcher John Cannon. Hutto came out of 18-3A which may have been the toughest district this year with four of the teams in the Top 20 at some point this year. Hutto had to beat district rival Taylor in the Regional Finals. Hutto will move to 4A next year.

those times are terrible :(

for baseball fans more than 3 hours away, there is no way to get half a day off and go see a game.

Calallen advances to 4A title game

ROUND ROCK - Patrick Frasier and Roland Resendez each had two RBIs Wednesday to help lead Corpus Christi Calallen to a 7-1 victory over Friendswood in the state Class 4A baseball tournament.

Calallen (41-1) jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first inning. Frasier hit a two-run single. Resendez had an RBI single and two runners came home on fielders' choices. Calallen added two runs in the fifth, one on a double by Resendez.

Logan Verrett (18-0) got the win, allowing one run on four hits and striking out 12 in seven innings.

CLASS 3A
TEXARKANA PLEASANT GROVE 7, CASTROVILLE MEDINA VALLEY 3: At Austin, Jon Phillips went 3-for-4 and drove in two runs for Texarkana Pleasant Grove.

Michael Wacha (13-2) threw a complete game for Pleasant Grove (25-8) allowing three runs on five hits and striking out five. Kaleb Brown homered and Rylan Stephens drove in two runs for the Hawks.

SNYDER 7, HUTTO 5: At Austin, Snyder (34-6) used a five-run first inning to pull away early from Hutto (27-8). Jake Crenwelge tripled and drove in three runs for Snyder.

Snyder's Lance Day (11-5) allowed one earned run on six hits in a complete game.

CLASS 2A
SALADO 11, SAN ANGELO GRAPE CREEK 0: At Austin: Kevin Jackson tossed a no-hitter and struck out eight batters as the Salado Eagles shut out San Angelo Grape Creek.

Jackson also led Salado (31-6) offensively, finishing 2-for-3 with three RBIs.

CORSICANA MILDRED 7, BUNA 5: At Austin, Corsicana Mildred scored three runs in the seventh inning to beat the Cougars. With one out, Austin Melton hit a bases-clearing line drive to the gap in left field that scored two runs.

Corsicana Mildred (31-6) took a 4-0 lead in the second with four runs off three hits.

Trevor Burnett went 3-for-4 and Melton was 2-for-3 with two RBIs for Corsicana Mildred.

Cory Roper (15-2) held off Buna for two innings before the Cougars (22-7) scored in each of the next four innings to take a 5-4 lead into the top of the seventh inning. Ryan Sheppard tied the game at 4-4 on a solo home run in the fifth inning. Justin Carrell, who went 2-for-4, scored the go-ahead run in the sixth inning off a sacrifice fly by Kyle Clark.

But Corsicana Mildred took advantage of a walk, hit batter and two hits off Buna pitcher Brandon Hillin (10-1) in the seventh for the win.
