These are the ones who have won the most football games up through their 2007 season.

They are (with the team), no. of wins, and the year they started playing football.

1. Michigan 1879 869 wins

2. Notre Dame 1887 824 wins

3. Texas 1893 820 wins

4. Nebraska 1890 817 wins

5. Ohio State 1890 798 wins

As you can see these are teams that have great records and have each won several national championships over the years.
All started before Texas and got a few wins ahead of us before UT
started. Michigan had 34 wins on us as they started in 1879, Notre Dame started in 1887 and had 3 wins on us, Nebraska started in 1890 and had 6 wins on us, and Ohio State started in 1890 and had 8 wins on us. But hey! That is our fault for waiting so long.

Ut fans are excited as they hope to catch and pass Notre Dame either this year or next year but they need to be careful because Nebraska is right behind and could possible pass them up. There is little doubt that Ohio State will get into the 800 win group this year.

Exciting times indeed and great for off season discussions.

An interesting note is that in all time loses the leader is Northwestern (Chicago) with 610 loses. But it must be pointed out that they do have good teams sometimes and have made it to the Rose Bowl.

TCU and Navy are tied at 57 are tied (pun intended) for the largest number of ties. They are several games ahead of some other but unless the NCAA changes the rules on the OT games they will probably be tied forever. It is noted though that Navy had two big ties at 21 to 21 with Army. One was in 1926 when both teams were highly ranked and Notre Dame Coach Knute Rockne went to this game confident his team would easily win their game but ND suffered an upset. Also in 1948 Navy got a big tie with Army when Army was 8 - 0 and Navy was 0 - 8. After the game Army was still undefeated and Navy hadn't won a game that year but that was a big upset.
One of TCU's ties was in 1961 against Ohio State 7 to 7 which cost Ohio State a national championship.

So, according to these stats, since 1893, Texas has more football wins than any other team. That's amazing.

No waterboy. Since 1893 Michigan has 835 wins to Texas' 820 wins. But it is a lot closer.

No. You misunderstood me. Texas only took 114 years to get to 820 wins. It took Michigan from 1879 to, what, 2005? That's at least 126 years.:nerd:

I wonder if it's by coincidence that most of these universities are
considered basketball schools.
