MV took out their left hand pitcher (sorry MV folks, I don't know his name) brought in another pitcher and he hit a batter (maybe 2 I couldn't hear Mr44 clearly) and they took him out and they put in a 3rd pitcher (sorry, don't have names) they are starting the 5th now.......

Cuero drops Game 1

Gobblers commit eight miscues in dropping 13-9 decision

SEGUIN – Cuero knew it would have a hard time beating Medina Valley, but it will be almost impossible if the Gobblers don’t stop beating themselves.

Cuero committed eight errors that led to 12 unearned runs in a 13-9 loss to the Panthers in Game 1 of their best-of-three Class 3A regional semifinal series Thursday night at Fairgrounds Park.

Top-ranked Medina Valley improved to 35-2 and will attempt to wrap up the series when the teams return to Fairgrounds Park for Game 2 today at 7 p.m. If No. 2 Cuero (33-3-1) wins, Game 3 will be played Saturday at 2 p.m.

Cuero committed errors in five innings, including three in the top of the seventh when the Panthers scored five runs.

“We’ve got to handle situations,” Cuero coach Scott Holder said. “There were plays we could have made in that last inning when we were up by one that could have kept the damage to a minimum. We just didn’t do that. The last time we played these guys we made a lot of errors (nine). There’s a lot of tension both ways. You get this deep and nobody’s going to give you anything. You got to go take it. When you get the opportunity, you got to take it.”

The Gobblers took advantage of two Medina Valley errors to score three runs in the bottom of the sixth and took a 9-8 lead on Troy Ruiz’s sacrifice fly.

But Medina Valley had two hits against Cuero starter Mark Herrera in the seventh and made the Gobblers pay for their mistakes to take a 10-9 lead before Zack Dodson hit a three-run double against reliever and likely Game 2 starter Jennings Boothe with two outs.

Herrera had thrown 128 pitches before the seventh and finished with 145 and left when the game was delayed because the home plate umpire suffered a broken nose after Medina Valley had taken the lead.

“He was still strong,” Holder said of his decision to leave Herrera in the game. “He was still throwing in the bullpen. He’s was still throwing strong. We’re trying to save as many arms as we can for the rest of the series.”

Cuero scored in the first, third and fourth and sixth innings, but the Gobblers had only six hits against four Medina Valley pitchers. The Gobblers stranded nine runners and only Tyler Arndt had more than one hit.

Dotson, who started and finished the game on the mound, Cameron Payne and Matt Stein each had two of the Panthers’ 11 hits.

“I rather play sorry and win,”Medina Valley coach Carl Keller said, “than play sorry and lose.”
