And I "like" Austin, but in no way would I want to raise a family there.

I agree. There is no way I would ever want to live there. Every year when I go to the State Track Meet I look around and wonder why everyone loves that place!

I'm sure it all depends on where you are in Austin. There are parts of Houston that I wouldn't dream going to, but that doesn't mean that Houston is a terrible place to live. It all depends on where in Houston you are talking about.

The survey is based on Cities, and cities have city limits. When it comes to Austin and Houston you have to get way out in the supberbs to find any place decent enough to live and raise a family. I see nothing attractive about either place myself.

I wouldn't want to live in Austin.....the saying "Keep Austin weird" is there for a reason!!

i mean, exactly what is great about it? The traffic is ALWAYS horrible. 6th street is ok if you are 21-25 years old.

I love it when people critisize Abilene. I could introduce you to 20+ families that where forced to move here for job related reasons. When they first arrive they may no bones about they were on the first train out of here. But something in this town just seems to keep them here. Some of these people have even retired and stayed here. It's not pretty, but it is a great place to raise a family. We do have a rush hour but it only last 10 minutes:D .

I have to admit, I had a blast on 6th street. But I had more fun watching my daughter watching all the weirdo's.....(I really didn't realize how sheltered she is until then!!)

Austin ain't nearly as bad as Beaumont, Houston, Killeen (inside the city limits). Those are all toilets. I anticipate that the bigger the Hill gets the farther away from Austin I'll migrate.

Sorry, RM. :D

LOL!! He is definitely on the stranger side! In a one block area, I saw the infamous Leslie in a black thong swimsuit, on one corner.....saw some dude just walking down the sidewalk screaming obscenities to no one in particular. (My daughter's boyfriend and I were walking out of a store and we stopped in our tracks...I looked back at the cashier and he just waved his hand and said, "he's harmless"!) Then on the next corner I was was told to repent because I was going to burn in everlasting hell because I drank a beer!!

In between all that we were asked to :Keep rock alive" by 3 guys...one playing a sad looking guitar (that I couldn't even hear), one playing drums on a 5 gallon bucket (I have more rhythm than he did), and the other one holding out a hat. When we walked by and were asked to help "Keep rock alive", my daughter watched and listened for a second and said, "dude, I think y'all already killed it!"

Then...immediately after, some guy tried to sell us a "piece of Australia!" My husband is sucker because he won't give them any money, but he will sit there and listen to them....not me!! I just walked away.

THEN...we walk by a guy (drinking a Corona) asking us for money so his "girl" could buy her a burger to eat that night! The "girl" was sitting on the ground strumming on a guitar, with a cigarette hanging out of her mouth, a pack of Marlboro Reds laying beside the bottle of Corona she was sipping on!! I had had enough of the con artists by that time......I told him maybe if she would quit smoking and drinking she could afford to buy her own damn hamburger!!

Austin is a fun place to visit, but I wouldn't want to live there!!!!

I don't remember who it was but I do remember "You can be here by four thirty" "Cause I've made your reservation", "Don't be slow, Oh No No....Oh No No No......."
