Skimpy prom dress lands Houston teen in cuffs

By WENDELL EDWARDS / KHOU-TV

HOUSTON - Marche Taylor’s prom night experience wasn’t quite the norm. That’s because a night of dancing and hanging out with friends ended in a confrontation with school officials over her choice of apparel.

The Madison High School senior was escorted out in handcuffs because school officials said her gold, midriff-baring dress was inappropriate for the school prom.

"I actually like the dress. Everybody else likes my dress,” Ms. Taylor said as she showed it off to a KHOU-TV reporter on Friday afternoon.

Madison High's prom took place at the Sugar Land Marriott, but Ms. Taylor got only as far as the lobby. When she tried to enter the ballroom, she was told her outfit violated a school dress code.

"She shook her head, she was like, 'You are not getting into this prom,'” Ms. Taylor said. “We were arguing back and forth because I wanted to know why I can't get into my prom.”

Even after offering to provide more cover, Ms. Taylor was denied access. So she demanded her money back.

Eventually, Ms. Taylor said, someone called police. Officers showed up, handcuffed her and escorted her out. A photographer snapped a photo of Ms. Taylor, in handcuffs, being led out of the hotel.

Madison High School Principal Aubrey Todd said said the dress was inappropriate and violated the rules.

“It was revealing in such a way that it would not be appropriate for a prom," said Mr. Todd, who stood by the school official who denied Ms. Taylor access to the event.

Ms. Taylor said she regrets how things turned out. "They didn't give me any options but to go to jail or go home,” she said.

She knew the drill & just wanted to push the limits. Glad the school stood by its guns. Obey or go home (or jail).

it sounds like they were not giving her the option to obey after they turned her away

According to her own statement she had the option to "go to jail or go home". She must have chosen the "go to jail" option if she was led out in handcuffs. This will probably end up in court, but sad that some people always feel the need to push the limit.

Even if she felt she was in the right, when denied by the authorities she decided she knew better than they did what could be worn. Her first question should have been where is the written code that defines appropriate. If they could not provide one, she was correct. If not, go home or go to jail.

She wasn't taken to jail, she was just handcuffed and hauled out.

She wasn't charged with anything and was released.

All she wants is the price of the ticket.

In Greenwood, all dresses have to be approved BEFOREHAND....a picture is taken and if you try to get in with a different dress that doesn't pass dress code, you might as well turn and leave right then.

I wonder if they would have let her in if she wore a bikini?

Proms should be banned. They are nothing but trouble and the start of the next generation. I wonder if anybody has ever kept track of how many babies are born nine months after a school's prom.

Funniest thing is that I expect her parents to be on TV with a lawyer expressing how amazed they are that it turned into this, how the poor girl is the picture of prim and proper, and then within 2 weeks we can expect a $20M lawsuit for a violation of civil rights.

I'd like to shake the ladies hand that turned her away. Besides, don't we read about this happening every year, you would think the kids would know better.

The option to obey was to wear approved attire, which I'm quite sure had been made clear ahead of time. Once she showed up & raised heck anyway, see ya.

HOLY CRAP! i have seen strippers in more clothing than that! have some class young lady! period!

if i was her mother i would have ripped her a new one. no way should a girl that young be wearing that dress.

or why anyone would ever wear it is beyond me....but hey, to each their own. WHEN THEY ARE OF LEGAL AGE!

you are allowed to make bad choices, when you are of legal age and there are no excuses left for you.

How dumb are today's youth? Why would anyone think this dress would be allowed at a school function? I'm glad they turned her away. I would hate to know that this kind of dress would be allowed at any school function.

All I can say about that is that high school kids are crafty! Makes being a parent challenging to say the least. Hopefully, she gets the switch, even though she's a high schooler.

The prom and the party are supervised by adults who are very watchful indeed.

Not that its important to the story, but that principle Aubrey Todd is an old friend of mine I havent seen in at least 25 years or more. He is a 77 graduate of Sweetwater High School, and he is as good as they come. His Dad was a long time coach and math teacher at Sweetwater, before finally moving to San Angelo to be the principle at Central High.

The whole point of even attending prom was.....ummmm....you get the idea...

It's probably been like that since the inception of prom and will continue to be like that...

I agree - and she looked trashy in my opinion.. I feel sure she was completely aware of the rules - and changing at grandma's house pretty much confirms that. Kuos to those in charge that stood their ground and enforced the rules....

What was funney is in the posed picture before the cuffs, she has the top straps scrunched together so they are much narrower and exposing more skin.

When she went on TV for the interview, she has those same straps streched out much, much more.

I wonder why this girl is even in high school? Since when does hooking require a hs deploma anyway?
That's obviously where she is headed, and apparently she already has the wardrobe for it.

Prob ought to shave the stash though.:D

Good idea. This would allow her another orifice to use for sex without getting pregnant.

The "True Love Waits" campaign has already inadvertently popularized anal and oral sex as ways of "remaining chaste" and "saving oneself for marriage," I've read.
