I don't know what it is they're doing but for three years straight now the Owls seem to have caught on fire at the end of March/beginning of April. I just hope they keep it up!

Rice Owls Baseball

2006
win-loss record before 3/25: 18-8
win-loss record after 3/25: 39-5

2007
win-loss record before 3/28: 19-10
win-loss record after 3/28: 37-4

2008
win-loss record before 4/2: 20-10
win-loss record after 4/2: 16-1 (as of 5/8/08)

They're currently #5 on the RPI which is the main index used to determine qualification and seeding in the national tournament. They've gone 16-1 since the beginning of April with one win over #6 (RPI) Texas A&M, one win over #16 (RPI) Oklahoma State and a 3-game sweep over #8 (RPI) East Carolina included in those 16 wins.

Credit Wayne Graham, staff, & players because they always seem to peak this time of year. Granted, C-USA is not the best baseball conference but it is not bad either (Tulane, ECU, Houston, etc.). Rice has taken care of business OOC as well as noted above in single games.

The old man knows what he's doing & has been doing it well for a LONG time @ San Jac & Rice (after coaching hs too).

Good info. WOS87 as always.

2008
win-loss record before 4/2: 20-10
win-loss record after 4/2: 19-1 (as of 5/12/08)

Add 3 more wins to that original post as Rice just completed a 3 game sweep of UH today to clinch the C-USA Championship.

2008
win-loss record before 4/2: 20-10
win-loss record after 4/2: 22-1 (as of 5/16/08)

The Owls closed out the regular season Friday night with a 3 game sweep over #24 Tulane, going into the post-season with a 10 game winning streak, and having won 22 of their last 23. They have averaged almost 8 runs per game over the last 23 games.

With both #2 North Carolina and #3 Florida State losing (getting blown out by identical 12-2 scores), the 5th ranked Owls are closing the gap between themselves and the higher ranked teams and if they can make a nice showing in the C-USA tournament they definitely have a chance at nabbing a Top 3 seed in the national tournament, which would put them on the opposite side of the bracket from the #1 seed... a good place to be.
