i went to the port isabel and liberty hill game.
i have to say this about port isabel they are a bunch of 1st class people they drove about 5 to 6 hour trip to see and support their football and stands were packed. i tip my hat to all the port isabel fans and football team they are 1st class and they deserve it...

Altair Rice is a great team and I have a lot of respect for them. I hope that it turns out to be a great game. We have to practice hard. I'm not sure about this, but I think we play Saturday in the Alamo Dome at 2:00 pm. Well, good luck to all the teams in the playoffs.

Yeah, i'm losing it (the hair) but losing it the natural way, through genetics. NOT pulling it all out.

And yeah, I was hangin' with my boys, and waving that pTi banner loud and proud.

As far as the number of fans at the game, considering that the Tarpons are the only remaining team left in the RGV, you'd be pleasantly surprised with the number of fans on our side at the game. Heck, even at the game last week, I saw a few Harlingen letterman jackets, a couple of Lyford jackets, an Edcouch-Elsa jacket (no pun intended), and an Edinburg High jacket.

I saw the Rice/Bandera game last season, Rice won't bring a whole lot of fans, so Port Isabel's fans will far outnumber theirs.

Unsurprisingly, the Tarpons are the underdogs just like they are every time they get in the playoffs and just the way I like it. Like in the 80's against #1 Refugio, like in ’94 against the #1 ranked Cuero, which PI came out victorious.

PI is not and will not be intimidated neither by size nor speed. BTW, I saw Rice/Devine highlights in a SA news station, and Rice does NOT look any faster than PI, I think they are very similar, IMO the difference in the game will come down to, who makes the least mistakes, and when the where the mistakes are made will be crucial.

I think Rice wins this one by 2+ scores. PI's defense has been strong in the playoffs, but they haven't yet faced a team with the offensive fire power of Rice. They could have easily scored over 70 in each of their last two games, and also shut out their opponents, but they chose to play their JV. They're probably playing their best football right now. Their combo of backs are amazing.

I don't like to compare games, but Port Isabel lost to Lyford who lost to Devine. Devine didn't even belong on the field with Rice. I don't think they got a first down until midway through the second quarter, and Rice was almost scoring at will on them.

Port Isabel will put up a good fight, as they are a really good team, but unless Rice self destructs, I think PI's season will be coming to an end.

I hope you're right Murphy Lee. But I never like to underestimate an opponent. I'm sure PI will be as pumped as our boys and will put up a heck of a fight. Our boys will have to play their caliber of game and not come into it thinking it will be another easy win. It's going to be a long week, can't wait until Sat.

LH is small and doesn't have that much speed. I think what might be their fastest RB got hurt and didn't even play much. Hondo didn't have much speed either. PI hasn't faced a team with Rice's speed.

I've seen LH, Hondo, and Rice play. Spears is light years ahead of what LH and Hondo have as far as speed and quickness is concerned. The Seawall has a tough storm to withstand this week.

I tell you what... Rice hasn't played a team that can hit like us. Ask the teams we have play so far. Liberty Hill took us lightly, Hondo didn't give us much of a chance and the "experts" made us the underdogs every time. When the clocks winds down its final seconds and the TARPONS are the ones who go to the final four the Raiders won't know what happened. This former Tarpon will be yelling his heart out and flying the pTi flag high, proud and often. What Rice dosn't realize is that it won't be just PI fans there,but The Valley will be there. We have driven 10 hour trips to see our Tarpons and we will gladly make them over to see the our boys win one not only for PI but for all the Valley.

Look at www.texastrack.com (http://www.texastrack.com) to see the explanation of why you add 0.24 second to a hand timed event under 400 meters and that includes the 40 yard dash. Your 4.35 translates to a 4.6. Sorry to burst your bubble. Even Deion Sanders best time ever was only about 4.28 electronic. You may not think so mainly because you young ladies have never been on the football field to experience that sort of thing. But I was there, and believe it or not, it DOES play a factor.

I have seen both teams play exactly once in the last 2 weeks. Thier strengths are running the ball. Both teams have speed, ALOT OF SPEED. Both defenses are good. PI lined up in a unbalanced line most of 2nd half vs LH and put on a clinic how to run the toss sweep to perfection. RICE ran off tackle all night vs Wimberley and hit big plays outside with a toss sweep of thier own. So both teams are fairly evenly matched. It should be one of the best games to see Sat. Too close to call. Who ever makes fewest mistakes will take this game because both teams come to play with all they have. Good luck to both.

Now all I see is a bunch of crap about spirit lines and who has the better fans. Whoa! I have never seen so many people get into a football game. I am a little disappointed with our opposing team. Well, the coaches to be more specific. Our coaches were trying to get us to play in the Alamo Dome on Saturday at 4:00pm. You know what the Rice Raider's coach answer to that was? That's odd about the game time Kool because our coach initially said that we were "most likely" playing in the Alamodome at 8pm. I agree with my friend Crow that Rice is playing as well as anyone in the state right now. However, as a good friend/coach once told me - to win it all it takes more than talented players and good coaches. (no it's not the fans) It also takes some luck. So, if Rice is lucky on Saturday - i.e. we play as we are capable of with no injuries, mistakes or turnovers - then I predict that we will win. We're fast on the ground, but can take to the air when we want to and have a solid defense. We also have a coaching staff that usually has something up their sleeve. But, anyone left in the game at this point is a force to be reckoned with and any slip-up will cost a good team the chance to advance. The Raider team has lots of respect for P.I. and I'm looking forward to seeing those Tarpon fans. I also agree with my friend Speck that this sight is growing very tiresom from posters who really don't talk about anything of substance. I can't believe how much time I just spent reading a lot of nonsense. Oh well....Good luck Raiders!! Rice and P.I. can both be proud of the interest this game is generating.

Sorry I just had to respond to Speed 24. I feel better now. I also was at the PI/LH game Sat. and was very impressed with number of fans on the PI side. Looks like GREAT BUNCH OF PEOPLE WHO LOVE FOOTBALL! My kind of people. I know the players on both sides of the football will show alot of class and I'm hoping us fans can do the same. I have seen both teams play exactly once in the last 2 weeks. Thier strengths are running the ball. Both teams have speed, ALOT OF SPEED. Both defenses are good. PI lined up in a unbalanced line most of 2nd half vs LH and put on a clinic how to run the toss sweep to perfection. RICE ran off tackle all night vs Wimberley and hit big plays outside with a toss sweep of thier own. So both teams are fairly evenly matched. It should be one of the best games to see Sat. Too close to call. Who ever makes fewest mistakes will take

RiceBand I really don't get your point about coach JH coaching softball. We are not in softball season further more he is an asset to our coaching staff.
All Rice football coaches contribute their knowledge to the team as a whole and thats why we are in the quarterfinals of the playoffs. Our boys have high respect for their coaches. As far as insight in the game I think that P.I. has a better O than D. I think that in the time I saw them they had alot of team speed and were able to move the ball very well. The like to get in an unbalanced line and run the sweeps also they like to run the opt. ....Rice is a fast powerful team who would love to pound the ball down the field but will take the big play just as well...with a balanced attack..and the D fast and confusing ....They can math up with anybody still in the playoffs. :D

I was just listening to the game LH vs PI game on their Panther broadcast. Listening to the scouting report from their coach before the game and how he made a comparison to PI teams speed to to Burnet Bulldogs. In addition, he mentioned something I had forgotten about, that would be of PI's sprint, and mile relay at the state track meet. Also, mentioned the fan support and the Tarpon Playoff tradition. And of course the game was also recorded.
