Wow, lots of close ones out there. In ours, LE had 3 hits, Bullard 4. LE pitcher 11 SO, 1 walk, Bullard pitcher 4 SO, no walks. Stranded baserunners, ground balls, popups - the difference? Bullard's error on a short, 3rd baseline bunt by LE's bottom of the lineup with no one on in the 6th. Overthrown ball goes to the far right corner of the ballfield and the batter scores.

Need your prayers..... I just got off the phone with our first baseman's mom - they've admitted her to the hospital and will do surgery at 10:00 this morning on her finger. Compound fracture - bone came through the skin - they have to make sure she doesn't get an infection in the bone.... she's pretty devastated right now. And our second baseman got busted in the nose at practice this week and has to have surgery Tuesday to straighten the bone and cartilage in her nose.... Please pray that God guide these doctors and nurses and that these kids get put back together to heal safely.

Second base never missed a practice and is playing with a mask. First base refused to leave the dugout last night and was determined she would try to play today. We love you Nicki and Lauren!

ANDREWS - Kat Johnson gave up only an unearned run and struck out 12, and Levelland beat Greenwood in a one-game Region 1-4A quarterfinal playoff.

Next up for Levelland (24-8-1) is a regional semifinal date with Burkburnett (29-4-2), which is ranked No. 2 in the state by the Texas Girls Coaches Association.

Greenwood (27-10) committed four errors, including two in the fourth inning when Levelland scored all its runs.

Janae Coleman reached on a dropped fly ball leading off, was sacrificed to second and scored on a Tiffany Rice base hit.

Levelland's next batter, Kristen Casarez, reached on a throwing error by third baseman Amber Garduno that allowed Rice to score. Another base hit scored Casarez.

That was all Johnson needed.

"She might be the best 3A pitcher in the state,'' Greenwood coach Ken Ferguson said. "We thought maybe we could hold them down and maybe we could score a run or two, but we made those errors, and we got down more than we had a chance to catch up.''

Greenwood scored its only run in the bottom of the fourth. Linsey Hays reached on an infield single leading off and moved to second on a passed ball. She stole third and scored on an overthrow.

Hays, a freshman, held Levelland to three hits.

"We knew this would be a pitchers' duel, because their pitcher is just as good as ours,'' Levelland coach Jesse Casarez said. "But Kat just has another gear in the playoffs, and she did it again today against an excellent, excellent Greenwood team.''
