Do they help lower your times? More concerned with middle distance(800m,1600m) than sprints.

BFdad it's been my experience that chutes only help in sprint. Middle distance is more stamina than explosion. If you were to train with a chute it could only be for short distances or the person would tire very quickly. It's not very good for long sustained training sessions. Hope this helps.

Thanx Rabbit'93. My daughter started working out for the upcoming Track season and is looking for an edge.

If your daughter wants to get an edge on middle distances, she should practice getting used to longer distances...for instance, if she wants to run the 400 and 800, have her practice the 1600 and 3200...after a couple of weeks running further distances, she'll build up her stamina...I've always been under the belief that speed isn't taught, it's just natural...so if she can build her stamina, she should be able to maintain a higher speed throughout the shorter distances.

In pactice he would run what we called crosscountry at the time 3to 5 miles.

I have never used chutes for anything but sprints. She should be running OVER distances right now like the other poster said. The stronger she is the more speed she can put on in the end. She can start her 200 meter work later. right now just get her to enjoy running.

We didn't have chutes when i was in school.I ran
hurdles what we had was a saftey belt with a 15 foot rope tied to a tire, you would sprint with
tire trailing behind.
