Tech's Amendola on board

The Cowboys didn't draft a receiver, but they have added at least one through college free agency - Texas Tech's Danny Amendola.

He had 109 catches for 1,245 yards and six touchdowns for the Red Raiders in 2007. The Cowboys would really like to see Amendola develop into another Tech receiver, Wes Welker, who lit it up last year in New England. They have similar builds - Amendola is 5-10, 183, Welker is 5-8, 185 - and excelled as slot receivers in Mike Leach's offense.

One of the funniest quotes of all time------Leon Spinks when asked about his chances against Larry Holmes---" I think I can beat Larry Holmes cause he is more dumber than me"

'Red' signed by the 'Skins
By The Democrat Staff

It may have been after the draft, but Matterral Richardson still got the phone call he had been waiting for all day.

According to reports, the former Marlin High and University of Arkansas cornerback signed a free agent contract with the Washington Redskins on Sunday - after the seven-round NFL draft concluded. Richardson could not be contacted.

That's not a porn 'stache...just some growth. Jeff Kent has a porn 'stache. Scruffy is good, porn 'stache is not!

Amendola has a chance, but it has to be perfect system fit. Welker is very elusive & quick out of his cuts. Being White, from Tech, & similar size does not mean he is Wes Welker. I wish him the best. Heck of a baseball player in his day too at The Woodlands.

No, he is not Wes Welker, but Danny Amendola. :p

2007: Amendola, Danny 12 103 1177 11.4 5 49 98.1

Wes Welker: College career

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wes_Welker

Welker's last minute signing proved to be a bonanza for the Texas Tech Red Raiders. Based on a highlight reel from high school, Welker earned the nickname "The Natural" before his freshman year for his versatility and big-game performances.[5][6] Over his four-year career, he had 259 receptions for 3019 yards and 21 touchdowns, and 79 rushes for 456 yards and two touchdowns. He also scored eight touchdowns returning punts in his career, still tied for the NCAA record.[2]

Exactly & I wish him well. I just laugh at the generalizations now (not just here but everywhere) that if a WR is White, of smaller stature, & from a pass-happy offense then he is the "next Wes Welker". Welker was a stud at Tech & in hs (OK). Leach knew of him from his days at OU. He was set to walk-on elsewhere & Leach offered at the last minute when a spot opened up. Welker made the most of it.

Watch this happen...

If Amendola makes the team...then Eric Morris will get a shot in 2009 after he graduates.

Then watch in 2012 or so when Cornelius Douglas graduates from Tech. They'll be calling him the "black Wes Welker" because they're both undersized, ridiculously talented athletes from Oklahoma.

If I could've found cumulutive stats on Amendola or season breakdowns on Welker, I would've posted either/or. Both were very good in h.s. and while at Tech. I personally never said he'd be "the next Welker", but don't be surprised to see him make an impact with the Cowboys. :2thumbsup

Sounds like you agree with me on the generalizations. I don't think Welker gets the credit he deserves. He can flat play - regardless of size or color of skin! Ask DBs in the Big 12 & NFL...

I'm not as high on Morris. Good college system player but I think it ends there. Crabtree is a different story. Probable high 1st rounder & hoss.

Truly, I hope he does. But I think he struggles to make an NFL team. He simply is not Wes Welker. Welker had doubters too. Made SD Chargers then got cut later, moved on to Miami, & now flourishing in New England. Amendola does not get the same kind of separation that Welker did & does. NFL DBs are that good & throwing windows are smaller. We'll all have to see what happens. Kid has had a fine career regardless.

The only WR that could potentially be drafted higher than MC would be Percy Harvin...but he's still not the pure #1 type receiver than NFL teams covet. Taking Harvin is like taking Ted Ginn...a hell of an athlete that doesn't fit perfectly in one role so you try to use him in multiple ways to make up for it.

Perc has more lateral quickness than Ginn JR

Agreed.

Ginn, Jr. is a vertical speedster but not a polished WR. Reach last year by Miami. I like Crabtree better long-term.
