I am in need of replacing one in our rent house. How much can I expect to pay for a 2 ton unit?

If it's a central, I'd guess about $3000. I paid about $5000. 8 to 10 years ago for a 5 ton.

Probably a good guess. We paid 9K about two years ago for a 4 ton, but we replaced both units and all ductwork. Sure glad that doesn't come around often.

I think 44inarow just replaced her unit(s) recently too.

Yep, mine was just the inside and outside, no ducts.

Ours is 5 ton - did the entire ball of wax - new ductwork and new heat pump and new compressor etc - $10,000 - hard to write that check - but I think we'll be pleased with the decrease in utility bills...... plus - the air flow is 100% better than us used to be........

Not sure what it cost us when we built our house, but my dad wired and installed everything, including the duct work. He's a BA, but in all honesty it really isn't that hard to do.

IF YOU ARE REPLACING THE FURNACE AND THE CONDENSING UNIT A FAIR PRICE WOULD BE 2500.TO 3000. THAT WOULD BE A 13 SEER UNIT AND A STANDARD UNIT ,HEAT PUMPS ARE A LOT HIGHER .YOUR TRANE ,LENNOX OR CARRIER UNITS ARE USUALLY HIGHER PRICED .A GOODMAN IS A GOOD UNIT FOR THE MONEY..I HAVE BEEN IN THE HVAC BUISNESS FOR MANY YEARS SO THEIR ARE A NUMBER OF VARIABLES SUCH AS SEER RATINGS THAT CAN REALLY DRIVE THE PRICE UP.TRY TO GET A RELIABLE DEALER .THEIR ARE STILL SOME FREON 22 UNITS STILL OUT BUT ALL FREON 22 UNITS ARE BEING FASED OUT FOR FREON 410. GOOD LUCK

With the price of copper spiralling upward, you should definitely buy sooner than later. They will go higher.

No, but I had to repair my AC ligament in my right knee in 1971. I'm thinking both cost about the same, but the recovery time is much less with the ac unit.:)

Replaced mine in December 2007. 4 ton unit inside and outside equipment only. $8400.00 dollars. Could have gotten a lower ER Rating and fewer whistles and bells for $3200.00.

I am in the process right now. Outside unit, inside unit, new gas furnace, 3.5 ton, installation, tax, and everything $3000 for a Goodman. Probably should have gone ahead and changed out duct work too, but I'm cheap.

I had to replace my outside unit (condensor) and inside unit (evaporator) in January '06. It's a 4-ton with an EER rating of 13.0 . It cost me $1344.00 cash. That was a bargain after pricing around. Most of the bids I got were in the $2100-2800 range. Of course, the duct work, wiring, and copper lines were already there and did not have to be replaced.

I was able to replace the condenser only....new Gibson unit for $1400. That was the cost of the unit and having it installed.

One thing to consider - if you get something 15 SEER or above you are eligible for a $500 tax right off on your '08 taxes. We replaced our unit with a 4 ton SEER 15 for about $5500

I have two quotes in my hands right now. Mine was an AC/Heat Pump unit - 3 ton.

Payne AC/Heat Pump Unit w/auxillary heat strips - $5195
American Standard AC Unit and Electric Heat (no pump) - $5350
