Authorities in Burleson County have taken a man suspected of a double homicide into custody 12 hours after the crime and following a manhunt and standoff.
Myron Douglas Phillips emerged peacefully, wanted in the deaths of a father and grandfather, David Weichert Sr. and Jr.
The murders took place at a home on FM 3058 near the Beaver Creek community around 5:30 a.m. The home is near both Snook and Lyons.
Authorities searched for Phillips during the afternoon and later found him at a home off of County Road 244, also in Burleson County. Negociations went on through the afternoon and into the early evening until Phillips came out of the home and surrendered just after 5 p.m.
According to authorities, Phillips was due in a Harris County court Wednesday, but did not make that appearance. He has been indicted for the sexual assault of a child. They also say it was a family disturbance that led to the shooting.
In addition to Burleson County's law enforcers, Brazos County provided some resources and personnel, as did the Texas Rangers and DPS.
Somerville and Snook ISDs added extra security as a result of this threat, but after school activities and bus routes ran normally once school officials found out the suspect was surrounded.
Three other people were in the house where the shooting occured according to authorities, but they were not shot. It is unknown whether they sustained any injuries
