I have a good feeling about Houston. Leading 7-3 in the 7th right now, after giving Peavy a little more than he wanted.

Also, I told my folks they should have walked Gonzales before he hit that 3 run blast. They had 1st base open and should have walked him, but oh well.

Anyhow, the offense is starting to look pretty good.:)

We need a "Go Astros" Smiley!

I wouldn't issue a IBB to Gonzales in that situation, but it's definitely a time where you nibble around the strike zone. It was just a bad pitch by Backe.

I said it last night, but I'll say it again. Tejada, Berkman, and Lee in the 3, 4, 5 hole is the best lineup. Matsui has made a bigger impact than I expected, as well.

you still got that feeling now?

Then again, I have a bad feeling about the bullpen too.

 :hand:  :(

Brocail gives up 3 runs to make it 7-6 and now they have the tying run on 3rd with one out.

And Mr. Homerun himself, Valverde, is coming in to "relieve."

Let's see how this goes.

Something is wrong with my TV, there is too much green in the picture. The Astros caps are even green.

Reporters are saying the Padres bullpen is worst than the Astros. They are 1-8 in decisions and the Astros are 5-5. Padres also have a higher ERA.

I agree, Backe just left a 2-seamer up in the zone & good hitters crush that pitch more often than not, & Gonzalez did. Too early in 6th inning to get defensive with 2-0 lead at time. Offense is starting to click & Matsui has been a spark so far. He will help us. Backe battled & did a good job.

Brocail had a tough night, but he's an old pro & will bounce back. He has pitched very well until tonight. Valverde had the split working - hope that is a good sign of things to come. He needs that pitch badly to succeed.

Tejada is on fire. 3-4-5 is salty middle of order, kudos to Cooper for tweaking it. Lee hasn't even gotten hot yet. Pence is too good to stay down long, & he has shown signs of life lately. Gonna come down to pitching like always. We'll see but at least a glimmer of hope in April. LONG season...

This is the offense that I envisioned the Astros having...well, not quite to the extent of the last three games, but definitely more than what we showed early on.

Just imagine if Bourn was stealing bases and Towles wan't striking out.

:D

At one point tonight the Astros got 6 or 7 consecutive 2 out hits. Very Nice!

Speaking of Towles...Did you realize that 4 of his 10 hits are home runs? At one point during last nights game, his average had dipped down to .200 and I posed the question, "Are half of his hits home runs?" So I looked it up after the game, and at that time he was 8 for 40, so half of his hits were indeed home runs. His latest two hits have bumped his average up to .227 now.

seems like he has already done more batting in one month of baseball then ausmus has done his whole career

Astros picked him up in the offseason. He started four games for San Diego last year and posted a 1-1 record with a 3.97 ERA. In AAA Portland he was 7-14 with a 3.91 ERA in 24 starts. In three starts with the Express, he was 1-1 with a 2.50 ERA. Will probably never be a mainstay in the majors, but will be adequate for the occasional spot start.

And brother is Matt Cassel, former back-up USC qb to Leinart & now with Patriots. Adequate fill-in guy for now. Nieve not ready yet & Paulino still hurt. He almost made team out of ST.

Astros are clicking right now. Fun to watch. Towles will be just fine. OB% & slugging are off charts right now for a rookie catcher. Most overrated stat is batting avg. in baseball. Productivity is all that matters. I like his upside.

Another good win, even rested Lee & Matsui too (Bourn nursing groin as well). Berkman sure loves hitting in Cincy. He punishes the Reds. Cassel did his job. Sinker/slider guy who pitches to contact, much like Sampson. Bullpen was great today. Byrdak (Rice alum) was the key to game w/ job he did. Valverde seems to have settled in, using riding fastball w/ split & a few sliders.

5 in a row...on to St. Louis for a big early season series.
