Who had ultimate power or fame, but through either dumb mistakes or pure greed lost it all?

So far I have Richard Nixon and Pete Rose

I actually had him, but figured no one would be smart enough to know who it was.

Yes IMO

But, it could depend on one's perspective or opinion of the whole Nazi regime.

The question was "who had ulimate power, OR fame". Without question Hitler had ultimate power, abused it, and paid the price.

I would say these guys too.

Saw a film about the rise and fall of Enron. It's called "Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room." Very interesting.

What I find incredible is there was one guy (Lou Pai) who was able to cash out with close to 300 mil. and was never charged.

I was a fan, but have been disappointed lately, I might change my mind when I get my economic stimulus check, but I am thinking not.

This could be a thread closer.....:D Just trying to keep our favorite mods busy!

Napoleon is the obvious name that comes to mind among historical figures

The Romanovs in Russia and the Bourbons in pre-Revolutionary France come to mind among European Royalty.

M.C. Hammer, Michael Jackson among pop stars

O.J. Simpson, Tonya Harding, Barry Bonds(?), Martina Hingis(?) in the Sports world
