I wasn't at the coin toss, but Needville was looking for 2-out-of-3 the last I heard. So unless some thinking changed, looks like that's what happened.

in the smaller classes many schools will choose one game series this weekend and on thursday...due to regional track meets....next week could see more series.....but the only catch is next week with TAKS...If I remember reading right...series can't start until friday....some schools i think were asking for waviers to start TAKS on monday....cause I believe state academic comps...are next weekend.

so if we (fairfield) got a bye our first game/series will be next weekend right?

PutMeInCoach
04-25-2008, 01:17 PM
Yes, Friday unless your and the opposing school got a waivers for the TAKS to be moved from Friday to Monday. In that case you could play Thurs.

I posted this once when we were not district champions in softball one year and I still believe it that District Champions when playing a third place or runnerup team should not have to coin flip. Instead the District Champion team should have the home field advantage unless they opt for a best two out of three then coin flip on who gets the first game at home and the remaining 2 if needed on the other team's home field.

the year la grange won state in softball-- 4 years ago I think-- bellville wanted 2 out of 3 and la grange wanted one. bellville won the toss-- bellville won game 1, and then lost 2 straight-- the rest is history. I would always take my chances with one game.. JMO...

a series over two days...like next weekend I don't like....cause of the chances of bad weather..rain.....if only one gets played then that is what determines the series winner.....a series over three days is good....when I was growing up in baseball we had best of three series on tuesday...friday and saturday...even one my soph year tuesday, thursday..sat.

Best team "should" win in a series format. One game anything can happen. I just wish we would have had this option when I played. Back then it was 1 gamers, period.

BASEBALL - softball wasn't even a UIL sport then. Baseball did not have series then, only 1 game playoffs. I graduated hs in 1989.

Does slow pitch / beer ball count? ;)

Plenty of that & we had some fun. Still play some but not 3-4 days per week like old days.

maybe i don't understand your post i graduated in 85...we had series.....cause i remembered that my senior year had some buddies i played summer ball with and their team had to play one game series because there was a lot of rain and two of their rounds were one game playoffs..cause of the rain...they made it to the state semis...lost to victoria stroman.
