Which do you think is more important for middle school football?

Putting the players in position to experience success?

or

Forcing the high school system to be run regardless of whether there is any success running it?

Example:

High School runs a 1 back, 4 wide set exclusively.

Middle School is expected to do the same but the personnel simply cannot pull it off and the offense experiences no success at all.

i think you run the high school system to a degree....try and get a few basics

We ran the basic plays and killed teams in junior high, but when high school came around we changed it up and we well we were terrible...

I think you should install basic offense, at that age... the junior high coaches we have are terrible...

You do both. You run the high school system, but you tweak it to fit the personel. Every offense has a handful of BASE plays. These need to be installed on every level and the kids need to be able to run these plays in their sleep by the time they reach high school. You also have to mold the offense around the cards you have been dealt. The Jr Hi kids deserve to have success just as much as the high school kids. This past season we had a big, strong, slow football team at the high school and we ran a lot of Power Wishbone stuff (leads, double leads, power sweep, etc.) On the other hand our Jr Hi kids are extremely athletic with speed to burn and we ran more veer, option, and toss type plays to get them outside where that speed can be a factor. They ran all of the leads, double leads, and student body power sweeps as the base and we built off of that.
