Is there a reason most fields run north and south?

My best guess would be that way the sun isn't in the eyes of the players who are running down the field and look back for the ball? That's just speculation, I never really asked or wondered why.

that def makes the most sense. Ever notice how most stadiums also put the west sun in the visiting fans eyes?

Actually, stadiums don't run at all, it's the players that do all the running. :D

They are still not sure in Merkel which direction it runs. That is a project for the AP gifted and talented class this semester to do a study to find out which way their field runs.:D :confused:
