What is your favorite defense to run? If you were the coordinator, what would you do? What would be key plays?

my base defense would probably be a base 75 defense...4 down lineman 2 middle linebackers 2 outside linebackers a free safety and two corners...however on defense there are many different defenses to be run its all about the team your playing that week...

Base 4-3, Cover 2 & willing to adjust & be multiple depending on who you are playing & what the match-ups predicate. Constant game of adjustments & getting your athletes in a position to make plays.

Coaches stuck on "this is who we are & this is what we are going to do" in this day & age are doomed to fail.

I thought you would know by now that there is only one defense.

The 10-1.

I love the 4-2-5....you can do a lot of different things out of that base set and if you've got athletes you can cause major havoc...

I've heard it called both. (I actually paid attention during the "Football 101" meetings. :D )

I think it just depends on the coach and what he wants to call it...I hear Split 6 used much more than 4-2-5...

i've never been a part of one so i'm not sure how fun it would be, but lately i've drawn favor to 3-4 defenses....you can come up with so many blitz packages it would be insane!....anybody played in one?

True, but vulnerable to a power running attack a good portion of the time too. Hard to match up between the tackles. Better have a hybrid guy who can drop down in the box & cover as well. Hard to find those guys usually. TCU runs this defense well, as do others.

Personnel should dictate whatever you run to give you the best chance to succeed.

3-3 stack.. Shuts down the spread but you have to have two good d ends to make it work.

Bay City ran that under Chad Morris,he shut down the run every game, but he had the LB'S with great size and speed.

He had the personnel, aka Manning & McDaniel. It's not the Xs & the Os, but rather the Jimmys & the Joes that make any defense work 99% of the time. That was a good BC team.

4-2-5 is vulnerable to power ground game...luckily Everman (the team I normally watch) has the kind of athletes to bring a guy up or put a 5th guy with his hand on the ground...

it's cliche but it's true....i can remember playing teams who wanted to establish a run game that they would kinda be able to move down the field.....then we'd get ahead by 2 or 3 tds and all they wanted to do was throw....then it's fun time for dline

:D :D Actually, the 10-1 is a variation of the 80 which was made famous in the 60's at Jacksboro under Coach Owen. G. A. Moore at the time was coaching in Bryson, Texas right down the road from Jacksboro, which was one of if not the winningest team of the 60's. Moore tweaked it of course, but the two are basically the same in philosophy. The 80 has 8 linemen and no backers hence the name. There were 2 corners and 1 safety. In the 80, the corners would drop off the ball just a bit and Moore liked to keep them up on the LOS. I'm sure there are a few other less obvious tweaks, such as the under-and-up technique that Celina teaches their down linemen etc. I just thought I would take a minute to remind everyone that Celina didn't invent the 10-1 they just adapted it and added to it to get it to where it is now.
