Where did you play at??? With what you said you were betting...you should earn some pretty decent comps on your return trip depending on the property.

we gambled 90% of the time at the golden nugget, thats where we were staying - we didn't have a players card or anything though, we didn't think that we would be back any time soon - and we started betting small, but once i got up, i started betting more....

Good times.

Although, I've always had better luck at the Luxor & Monte Carlo. ;)

Gotcha...yeah always get a card to allow them to track your play...esp downtown. Since you had prepaid they couldn't comp your room but they'd likely pick up a few meals for you.

As a reference point for strip rooms, most properties want $125/hand for 4 hours per day for a standard room comp or $200/hand for 4 hrs/day for a full RFB comp. (Room, Food Beverage) Granted if you play at a Harrah's property (Bally's, Paris, Flamingo, Harrah's, Rio) not named Caesar's...you'll get room comps offered on just about every weekday (depending on convention schedule) and the occassional weekend if you play a few hours at $25+ hand. But again...they can't offer you comps if they don't have record of your play.

Now there are ways to manipulate this number because your rating is simply based on what the pit boss enters into the computer for you. If every time he comes by he sees you betting $25...then he enters that, the time you started, and the time you left. It's a true rating. HOWEVER...if you say hi when they walk up ("Hey Johnny how's it going tonight?") and make quick small talk...you'll get a little bit of a boost in your number. Make sure to tip your dealers when you win a hand (or ask if they want you to place their tip as a bet for them) and you're number will go even more as the dealers will tell the pit that you're taking care of them. Third of all, make pleasant conversation with the dealers, cocktail waitresses, and anybody else that comes to your table...and now you're creating 1) a good atmosphere in the casino that keeps people playing for longer periods of time and 2) you become somebody that they remember...there's another boost in your rating. Also, by going on weekdays, you go from being one of 500 guys that's playing $50-100/hand to being one of 75 guys playing that much. Go down late at night when things start slowing down...and you're one of 20 guys.

On average, my bets run between $25-50 with the occassional $75 bet when playing BJ. I always ask what I'm rated at when I leave the tables at Paris/Bally's...and it's always been between $75-$135. One time they told me $50 and I said "I had some bets that were up to $75"...and they quickly made an adjustment to push my average bet up a bit.

All of that is to say this...
- Get a players card...MAKE SURE YOU GET RATED!!!
- Take care of your dealers/cocktail waitresses, they'll take care of you too.
- Be sociable with players at your table and talk up to the pit boss, dealers, etc (some day I'll tell you about the pit boss at the Wynn that has been divorced 11 times...you read that right...and is getting married again at 64) and it will go a LONG way in your rating.
- Most importantly, don't let a winning streak push your bet beyond a level that you're comfortable with. If you grow your $200 to $1500...take $500 out of play and just play the rest of your winnings as you normally would. Once emotion gets in the way (along with a few cocktails)....you'll start making incorrect decisions.
