View Full Version : It's that time of year again....

I used to tell everyone to be careful every year when mid-April approached (semi-jokingly) due to the inordinate number of horrible events that have occurred within a 4 day span from April 16th-20th in just the past 25 years, not really expecting the trend to continue and then Virginia Tech happened last year.

Keep your eyes open for anything strange going on over the next few days because it seems like this week has turned into the anniversary of choice for the crazies out there who want to senselessly murder innocent people.

April 16, 2007 - Virginia Tech
April 20, 1999 - Columbine shootings
April 19, 1995 - Oklahoma City bombing
April 19, 1993 - Branch Davidian compound in Waco burns down
April 18, 1983 - Suicide bomber kills 63 at US Embassy in Lebanon
April 20, 1889 - Adolf Hitler is born (which is the proposed reason the date was picked by the Columbine killers)

I am sorry to hear that. How old was she and why did she need heart surgery at her age?

April 16, 1995 - Iqbal Masih, the young boy from Pakistan who spoke out against child labor, was shot to death. At age four, he had been sold into servitude as a carpet weaver and spent the next six years shackled to a loom. At age ten, he escaped and began speaking out, attracting worldwide attention as a speaker at an international labor conference in Sweden.

April 18, 1906 - The San Francisco Earthquake struck at 5:13 a.m. followed by a massive fire from overturned wood stoves and broken gas pipes. The fire blazed for three days resulting in the destruction of over 10,000 acres of property and 4,000 lives lost.

April 19, 1775 - At dawn in Massachusetts, about 70 armed militiamen stood face to face on Lexington Green with a British advance guard unit. An unordered 'shot heard around the world' began the American Revolution. A volley of British rifle fire followed by a charge with bayonets left eight Americans dead and ten wounded.

April 19, 1989 - Forty seven U.S. sailors were killed by an explosion in a gun turret on the USS Iowa during gunnery exercises in the waters off Puerto Rico.

I'm very memory challenged. But, weren't the events that
happened in '93,'95, and '99 tied together in some way?

I don't know about the '99 incident, but '93 and '95 were tied together.

Just a question... is there anyone still in that compound in Eldorado?

I believe a lot of the adults are still there. Last report I heard was that 401 underage children have been removed.

One of my friends was at Forney's D-Now and told me she had a 23 hour open heart surgery before passing. Such a sad thing.

She had surgery to correct a birth defect with the aorta, it was supposed to be a 4 hour surgery but turned into 24 hours and her body couldn't handle it. She was in a coma for a day or so before she passed on Saturday.
