View Full Version : OU Pro Day deemed a disaster by some...

NFL.com's got numbers from OU's Pro Day up in Norman today, and you might want to avert your eyes.

WR Malcolm Kelly ran a 4.75 and 4.68, and CB Reggie Smith posted a 4.65 and 4.61 in the 40. Ohio State DE Vernon Gholston, as a point of reference, ran a 4.58 at his Pro Day.

What does it mean? Kelly may well have just run his way out of the first round altogether, while Smith is probably being seen as strictly a safety in some corners now. The report did say that Kelly "looked very good". But with a chance to take the mantle as the best receiver in a mediocre class, Kelly clearly failed to move up to No. 1.

I do think it's important to interject the case of guys like Anquan Boldin, who ran in the 4.7s at the combine, then caught 101 passes as a rookie. And that Kelly's been hurt. And that there are probably a lot of NFL types ignoring all that right now, even if he looks pretty good on tape.

Kelly, by the way, will be visiting Valley Ranch next week.

Very interesting! What you typically think of as "speed" positions running 4.7's, yet so many high school kids that I've seen posts of legit 4.3, 4.4, etc. Hmmmmm

Yes, nobogey, that was another "things that make you go hmmmmm". ;)

I'd love to see the Cowboys take Kelly at 28 if he slips that far!

The Cowboys don't need any more sooners on their roster. I hope they get rid of one soon. He's the worst pass-coverage safety in the league.

You can say that again.

Well LHPM that is because a lot of kids 40's are hand timed. At the combine and pro days it is electronic timing. :)

Kelly was quite PO'd after yesterday. He had it set up to run on astroturf. However, they switched it up on him to run on the field turf. OU switched it out for Pro Day because "that's what the NFL teams want to see you run on. They don't play on astroturf anymore."

Pro Days usually aren't FAT. The one at OU was hand timed. Some watches had Kelly up over 4.8

You have to remember that former OU players such as defensive back Roy Williams and running back Adrian Peterson have had great NFL success. And don't forget the Selman brothers in the 70s.

Okay, that's four. Roy Williams career should have ended two years ago because that's when his talent plummeted.

He did make a big play on Chris Simms in the UT vs Oklahoma game that cinched it for Oklahoma a few years ago.

Yes, that was a great highlight reel play. I believe that was in the 2002 Red River Shootout when he had talent.

And don't forget the great offensive lineman Ralph Neely who played for Dallas in the sixties and seventies.

And I'm not sure where their great Heisman Trophy winner Jason White (QB) is playing.

Jason White wasn't drafted, but made a roster (the Chiefs I think). I don't think he ever stepped on the field in a real game.
