Our church is looking to sing a few secular songs this summer on a mission trip and the group Rascal Flatts was mentioned as a popular group to listen to. I know several of you are big fans of theirs, so tell me some of their more popular songs so that I can narrow down my listening list.

WELL, CONSIDERING THAT HE SAID CHURCH, I DOUBT SERIOUSLY THAT HE CARES ABOUT WHAT HAPPENS IN A BAR. BUT YOU'RE RIGHT, THIS WOULD MAKE A MUCH BETTER CHOICE FOR A CHURCH GROUP.

WHISKEY, BY PAT GREEN
Momma cried when you left me, Know she's always loved you so, She said hey fool what the hell did you do I said now mom I swear to God I just don't know, Picture book sittin on the table, Memories were stacked up through the years, But tonight their ain't no pictures on them pages,Cuz your kinda gone And you're never coming back home again

CHORUS

And tonight all the dancehalls are empty
No lovers on the floor
So I'll sit here with my whiskey
Drink it till I just can't drink no more

And I don't know why you had to leave me, All I really know is that you are gone, long gone, And everywhere I go I just feel lonely, You're the only life I've ever known, And I guess you heard the highway calling, Because you packed up your things and headed for the coast, I had to fight the urge to follow, I guess some time away from me is all you've ever really needed most

CHORUS

And tonight you know this whole damn town is empty
And I don't think I can take it anymore
So I'll sit here with my whiskey
Drink it till I just can't drink no more

A Late night phone call from the East Coast, Said she had enough, She's coming on back home, Guess she went out and got crazy for awhile, If she leaves right now, Maybe she'll make Memphis by the dawn

CHORUS

And tonight you know this whole damn house is empty
Tomorrow will be like it was before
So I'll put away my whiskey
Guess I just don't need it anymore
Yeah I'll put away my whiskey
Guess I just don't need it anymore

WHISKEY'S GOT A HOLD ON ME, BY RANDY ROGERS BAND
I don't knoe who I am
Or why I take it this far
I wish i could find myself
But I don't know where you are
Woke up a little too late
Wearin the same old shirt
Maybe I started a little too soon
I'm already slurrin my words

Chorus

Whiskey's got a hold on me I can't help myself
I've been lost since you took off can't see me with anyone else
Cuz Whiskey's got a hold on me

Got a pair of bloodshot eyes
Everything to lose
Drown myself every night at this bar
It's yesterday's news
Last call at 2 am
Always tells the truth
I can tell when the lights come on
I'm still not over you

Chorus

FYI - I have no problem with people that drink. It's the getting drunk that's the problem. The whole drinking thing is a typical stereotyping of people that attend church.

I am not sure that Rascal Flats has ever claimed to be "country". Their music is played by several radio stations with different genres.

What would you call Elvis?

If Elvis claimed to be country, gospel, blues, rock and roll?

Rascal Flats is a very talented group that crosses many lines. Only musicians, singers, and people with a good ear for talent know how good they really are.

its apperant then that you dont have a good ear. songs they record are corny and horrible. go see them live, or watch them live on t.v.. TERRIBLE haromony singing. PERIOD. ask anybody with a good ear, they will tell you the same thing. anybody can sound good on a record, doing it live is a different story, and its a whole different story for them when it comes to playing live. they suck

I have seen them live on tv. There are a lot of folks out there that make it big who are not very good. Rascal Flatts is not one of them. Now if you want to talk about how bad Trace Adkins is, then we can agree on something.:)

They put out hits that appeal to the younger generation and not to those of traditional country listeners. I only like two of their songs as a state earlier; Sara Beth and Fast Cars and Freedom. IMO all the other songs sound just a like and they suck in concert.

I think most of the haters are the die hard country fans that never change the dial on the radio. Rascal Flatts is all over the radio. And their lead singer has major talent, no matter what the taste. I would not call myself a "Fan" as I don't even know what any of their names are, but when I listen to a song like "tell me it's not just me" I know I am listening to a singer that can flat out sing.
