Brooks Raley is a freshman too & 2-way player. Friday night starter as a true freshman is impressive.

Travis Starling (Yoakum) has flourished as the Aggies' closer. I believe he is 4-0 w/ 7 saves & ERA around .89 too. He walked on at A&M w/ an academic scholarship after being Yoakum's #2 behind Riley Boening (Texas, now back from shoulder surgery, tough outing this weekend vs. OU). Overshadowed in hs because of size, but kid can pitch/compete & knows what he is doing. Filthy knuckle curve is out pitch. Great kid & family, happy for him.

Shane Minks (West Columbia) is 4-0 w/ an ERA below 3 & has done well for A&M. I hope he gets more time on the weekends soon. Had a great summer & really starting to shine.

Lots of 3A kids doing well in major college baseball (Belt, Musick, Buenger, Workman, & others). Buenger has battled injuries this year at Rice.

Both used to, & Iowa St. dropped their baseball program most recently a few years back (heck, Robert Redford went to Colorado briefly to play baseball). Iowa St. does field a softball team. Main reason for both not playing baseball is gender equity Title IX. Trying to keep their male/female #s in line w/ total sports offered.

NEB reaps the most benefits from this as they recruit the Midwest & Colorado hard. NEB has a very good baseball program & stadium. State of Colorado plays pretty good baseball & lots of MLB players come from there (for the size of state).

(Kansas St. & Colorado do not field softball teams, fyi)

Believe it or not, I have always been someone who knows "stuff"! Inherited from my late father I guess (except he was the most intelligent person I've ever known on any subject). Sports are my passion & having played & worked in them for years, I guess you just pick stuff up. People call me all the time asking crazy sports questions. Don't know if that's good or bad...

The only time I get angry is when people rag on my school (Texas A&M) for no reason. Other than that I am a very civil guy who likes a good conversation back & forth.

WOS87 is a very smart dude...thanks! Take care.
