Cowboys Announce 2008 Preseason Schedule

IRVING, Texas - Since the Cowboys are heading back to California this summer for training camp, they will cut down on some travel time, as evident by the 2008 preseason schedule released by the NFL on Thursday.

The league only confirmed the actual dates and times for two games, but announced the weekends of the Cowboys' four preseason games, with the other two to be announced later.

The Cowboys will play their first two exhibition games on the road, beginning in San Diego, where they haven't played a preseason game since 1990. The team will make a short flight south from its training camp site in Oxnard, Calif., to San Diego for a game on either August 9 or 10, and return to camp for a few days before packing up to head to Denver.

The team will leave for the Mile High City mid-week to practice against the Broncos for three days before the two teams meet in a preseason game on either Aug. 16 or 17. Denver practiced against the Cowboys here at Valley Ranch last summer for three days before the two teams met in a preseason game at Texas Stadium.

The club's third preseason game is set for Aug. 22, a nationally-televised home game with Houston on CBS. Except for years when they meet in the regular season, the Cowboys and Texans are expected to meet each preseason for The Governors Cup and state bragging rights.

The Cowboys and Texans are 2-2 in preseason games since 2003, the first year the two franchises met in an exhibition game. The Cowboys and Houston Oilers had previously met each preseason before the Oilers relocated to Nashville, Tenn.

The preseason schedule will conclude with a home game against Minnesota, likely to be played Aug. 28-30. However, the last several years the Cowboys have ended the preseason with a Thursday night game, as they did last year in Minnesota. So if that holds true, the game likely will be played on Aug. 28, which also would represent the last preseason game played at Texas Stadium.

With the Houston preseason game the only nationally-televised one (CBS), the other three will produced and broadcast by the Cowboys' Blue Star Media in a five-state region of Texas, Arkansas, Louisiana, New Mexico and Oklahoma. Those three games will be carried by KTVT/CBS 11 in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.
