It is generally conceded that 1983 Daingerfield is the best 3A football team ever. Whether you agree or disagree that isn't the argument I am looking for here.

What is the best non-football 3A team ever?

2003 Lorena Leopards (baseball) 34-0 --- that's pretty special

As much as it pains me to give props to Wimberley, I think their volleyball team of '03 deserves to be in the conversation.

Once again coach Lee Grisham and his team proved that a school of only 600 students can run with the big dogs. He threw his Lady Texans up against the state's best and they responded. Jesi Grisham, Caitlin Rainbird, Brittany Ables, Courtney McCrocklin and crew compiled a 40-3 record that included wins over 5A champion San Antonio Clark, Churchill, Austin Westlake and a number of other 5A and 4A playoff teams. Amazingly, 37 of Wimberley's 40 wins were sweeps including an 18-0 performance in the playoffs that led to a third straight 3A state crown.

I don't know about everyone else but to me it's a team. The 1991 Jasper 4X100 meter relay team, with a time of 40.09 seconds which is flying. The national record was set in 1998 by O.D. Wyatt at 39.76 seconds.

Jasper ran a 39.9 in 1991 but they were 4A then.

Where's your info from Kep? It shows 40.09 here. You'll have to go down the page a little to see it.

I thought it was common knowledge. It's a damn shame they didn't have a track in town back then! They might have been really good with a track to practice on!

Speaking of, does anyone remember the State meet from 01 when Jonathan Johnson was running anchor on the mile relay?

Speaking of Canyon,
Their girls Cross Country Teams have a case full of state championships. It's quite an accomplishment to have 5 girls run a 2 mile cross country course with an avg time of 12 minutes or less, year after year after year. Amazing commitment

You are talking about the same event. 39.9 hand held time, 40.09 machine time. In 91, the official records were still kept by hand timing, now changed I understand, therefore the 40.09.

So under the old system, Jasper was the first high school team ever to go under 40 seconds. But 40.09 is still flying.

BTW, I was there, and the crowd went WILD.
