yes, thank you

let me just say that run Mathis scored in sb was a give me...girl got on base by a questionable HBP, then was clearly out attempting to steal 2nd, no call  advanced to 3rd on a grounder and scored off a foul tip that the home plate umpire missed

oh well....we still won! :D

Good to see Josh back and swinging the bat that good for his first game back. He played first base last night and looked good doing it.Don't know if he is able to pitch, but just having him in the lineup will help. Noticed a slight limp and he wears a guard on his leg when he bats. Welcome back JOSH!!! Good win against Mathis. Let's sweep district and get your playoff faces on. Go PIRATES!!! Also seen Cuero boys there last night scouting the game.

Sinton wins in battle of Pirates

SINTON -- Finally at full strength, the Sinton baseball team made a big statement against rival Mathis.

Sinton remains the only unbeaten team in the district standings following a 7-1 victory in Friday night's clash of the Pirates. The defending district champions pounded out 11 hits and improved to 3-0 and 16-5 overall.

Senior right-hander Joseph Alaniz (6-0) scattered five hits, while Robert Dunlap, Roy Perez and Anthony Trevino each collected two hits and combined to score four of Sinton's runs. More importantly, Sinton played its first game with all seven returning starters on the field.

A broken left ankle kept pitcher and infielder Josh Rodriguez out of the lineup until Friday's game. Wearing a shin guard that covered most of the junior's lower leg, Rodriguez walked, collected a hit and drove in a run with a sacrifice fly.

Dunlap, Sinton's senior leadoff hitter, played in his third game after missing time with a hand injury. He opened the bottom of the first by stretching a single into a double, which set the tone.

"It's nice to have what you think are your best 1-9 in the lineup," Sinton coach Gene Kasprzyk said. "We're not 100 percent healthy, but we're healthy enough to play. It's just nice to be at a point in the season where you think now -- knock on wood -- you can create the chemistry with the kids that you want.

"All the pieces are in place. Now we have to make them work together."

Mathis dropped to 2-1 in district and 13-5 overall. Chris Viafranco had two hits, while David Stevenson, Victor Alvarado and Ronnie Hernandez each had one.

Sinton got its offense going in a hurry.

Dunlap led off the bottom of the first with a looping hit over Mathis second baseman Hernandez and well in front of right fielder Tyler Rabb. The speedy Dunlap never pulled up as he rounded first base and slid into second just ahead of the throw.

Dunlap stole third and then scored when Shane Segovia reached safely on a fielding error two batters later. Segovia ended up at third on the play and went on to score on a wild pitch.

After drawing a walk, Rodriguez made it to second while catcher Alvarado chased down the ball. Alaniz followed with a line drive that hit the field umpire in the left shoulder and rolled out of reach of the infielders.

Rodriguez went to third on the single, after which courtesy runner Roland Rivas replaced Alaniz at first. Stevenson (3-2) ended the outburst by getting Cruz Rivas to hit into a pop fly.

Sinton added another run in the bottom of the second on a brief two-out rally.

Gabe Garcia grounded out to shortstop and designated hitter Carson Cave struck out swinging, but Dunlap kept the inning going when he beat out a chopper to third. He stole second and scored when Perez slapped a base hit to right for a 2-0 lead.

Sinton kept at it in the bottom of the third, which Segovia led off by striking out swinging. However, Segovia managed to reach safely on a passed ball.

Segovia scored on a long double to the corner in right by Trevino, who went to third on a base hit by Rodriguez. With one out, Cruz Rivas reached on a throwing error, allowing Trevino to score and put Sinton ahead 5-0.
