I would have to go with Karl Malone at PF over Duncan. Hakeem Olujuwon & Kareem Abdul-Jabbar would be my centers. I like George Gervin & Pete Maravich as 2 of my reserves.

Interesting question/thought on this:

Are you trying for the best player in each position for the starting five? Or do you look for five guys who were extremely good at what they did--maybe not the best--but would work well as a team?

STARTERS
C: Bill Russell
PF: Tim Duncan
SF: Larry Bird
SG: Michael Jordan
PG: Magic Johnson

2ND TEAM
C: Wilt Chamberlain
PF: Karl Malone
SF: Julius Erving
SG: Kobe Bryant
PG: Oscar Robertson

3RD TEAM
C: Shaquille O'Neal
PF: Charles Barkley
SF: Elgin Baylor
SG: Jerry West

The battle for first-team PG was tough. As good as Magic was, the Big O may have been the most skilled player ever.

Karl Malone's career average is equal to Duncan's best season.

Career ave: 25.0 points per game & 10.10 rebounds per game.

How many championships did Malone win?

Robert Horry has been on many championship teams, I wouldn't put him as one of the best players of all time.

No disrespect to Duncan, but this is my top 5 players. With Magic running the show, I prefer Karl Malone finishing those fast breaks. This is why I want Olajuwon at center, all-time shot blocker triggering the fast break and more athletic than Wilt to run down and receive one of those Magic passes. Here some more Karl Malone stats:

Honors: NBA MVP (1997, '99); 11-time All-NBA First Team (1988-1999); All-NBA Second Team (1988, 2000); All-Defensive First Team (1997-99); All-Defensive Second Team (1988); 14-time All-Star (1988-98, 2000-02); NBA All-Rookie Team (1985); One of 50 Greatest Players in NBA History (1996); Two-time Olympic gold medalist (1992, '96)
